Songwriters Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, formerly of the indie NYC downtown band Luna and currently recording as Dean & Britta, have composed music for a selection of Warhol’s four-minute, silent film portraits known as the Screen Tests. In the 60s, Andy Warhol shot about 500 Screen Tests, which were revealing portraits of visitors, both famous and anonymous, to his studio, the Factory. 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests is a multimedia performance featuring large scale video projection above the musicians performing live on stage. This project was developed by Andy Warhol Museum staff members Ben Harrison, associate curator for performance, Geralyn Huxley, curator of film and video and Greg Pierce, assistant curator of film and video.
The World Premier of 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests was jointly commissioned by The Andy Warhol Museum and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts.
