6 BILLION PERPS HELD HOSTAGE!
Artists Address Global Warming

This exhibition showcases a diverse collection of works and installations, including textile, video, painting, puzzles, inflatables, and photos all addressing the topic of global warming. These works serve to raise awareness of our current state of affairs, including U.S. policy, natural disasters, the destructive power of corporations, and the dangers of chemically altered foods. The exhibition is a collection of works by contemporary artists, including The Yes Men, Preemptive Media, Jay Critchley, Institute For Figuring, Hugo Kobayashi, Trevor Paglen, Marjetica Potrc, Cai Guo Qiang, Greg Kwiatek, Bobby Picket and Horseback Salad, Steffi Domike and Anne Rosenthal, Bob Bingham, and Andy Warhol.

Through 07/01/2007 Buggin': Taps for Justice

An examination of the history of wiretapping in American politics during Andy Warhol's life. Warhol painted portraits of Justice Louis Brandeis, who in 1928 was the first Supreme Court Justice to write an opinion opposing wire tapping (Olmsted v. United States). His opinion was, however, instrumental in determining another legal case in 1967 (known as Katz), which overturned the Olmsted decision. Warhol also made a portrait of Richard Nixon, shortly before his presidency was ended due to the Watergate scandal, much of which hinged on Nixon's personal recording of his conversations and phone calls - some of which are included in the show. Now, as our nation once again debates the legality of wiretapping and electronic eavesdropping, this exhibition examines some of the milestones of legal precedence, and the public discourse surrounding them.

Youth Invasion 2007

The Andy Warhol Museum, along with a youth production team comprised of Pittsburgh area high school students, kicks off Youth Invasion 2007 with a special Good Fridays event. This youth-programmed Museum-wide event, now in its seventh year, explores teens' unique take on the life and work of Andy Warhol through art, fashion, and music. This year’s theme, Hot Box: Thermonuclear Ice Cream Social is inspired by the 6 BILLION PERPS HELD HOSTAGE! Artists Address Global Warming exhibition currently on view at the Museum. The youth production team explored concepts of future utopian/distopian societies in the context of how human activity affects the Earth’s future.
