Car silkscreens that visitors can print on t-shirts, totes and more.

The Factory is now open daily

Modeled after Andy Warhol's New York studio the Silver Factory, the Factory is an open studio where museum visitors can create projects while exploring Andy Warhol's art-making techniques.

We hope you will join us there to make a silkscreen print or project using techniques of the artists shown in the museum.

Current projects relate to works of art in the special exhibition Andy Warhol and Cars: American Icons which examines Warhol’s enduring fascination with automotive vehicles as products of American consumer society.

Blotted line drawing created by Museum staff.

Blotted-Line Car Drawing

Andy Warhol first started experimenting with a special type of line drawing known as the blotted line technique while still a college student at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University).  He later used it to great effect in his commercial art of the 1950’s. Some of these works can be found on the 7th Floor in Warhol and Cars: American Icons.  Visit the studio and learn how to use pen and ink in this process that combines drawing and printing.
