The Mapping Pittsburgh site is intended to be a resource and a cumulative archive. The site is neither comprehensive nor complete; it’s a beginning. We hope that the site will grow with contributions from others in the community. There are a few ways in which you can contribute.
Add places, pictures or comments to the interactive map
The interactive map on this site, created by MapHub, is a compendium of Pittsburgh places known to artists and other individuals active in DIY/alternative culture. The map doesn’t necessarily include major museums or bookstores, although artists certainly patronize those places. Instead, it focuses on the neighborhood spots, alternative spaces, small galleries, odd and unusual sights, and other personal landmarks that might not appear on the tourist maps.
Do you have favorite places that aren’t on the map? Add them--instructions are on the map interface. You can also add photos or comments to existing objects (places) on the map.
Projects
The Projects page was created to feature more in-depth, personal, and idiosyncratic perspectives on Pittsburgh’s art, spaces and alternative culture. We are interested in projects portraying a wide variety of emerging and/or D.I.Y. arts and culture, alternative spaces, unusual places, and sights in the Pittsburgh area. Projects could include snapshots and commentary, podcasts, reviews, favorite artists, places and spaces, special features on interesting, quirky, unseen aspects of Pittsburgh life, highlights of happening events, people and places. Pretty much anything goes, as long as it's well-organized and presented. Please submit your ideas to claguel@warhol.org.
