Sound Series: Magnolia Electric Co. with special guest, The Donkeys
Magnolia Electric Co. comes to The Warhol on a tour supporting their latest release, It’s Made Me Cry on Secretly Canadian Records - the eclectic indie label that is also home to Antony & The Johnsons and Jens Lekman. With songwriter Jason Molina at the helm, the band delivers classic Americana songs from a romantically nomadic and rootless perspective, and hence Pitchfork.com described their last album, Sojourner, as “postmillennial road-trip art-rock”. Their unique sound has found them touring recently with a diverse group of artists including John Fahey, Jim O’Rourke and Trans Am. The relaxed west coast, alt-country sounds of The Donkeys open the show. Co-presented by WYEP Presents Tickets $12 |

Indeed, Jansch has been so completely influential since the mid 60’s that his unmistakable and innovative style of playing has been adopted through the generations by such a wide range of guitarists from Nick Drake and Donovan to Jimmy Page and Pete Townshend to Johnny Marr, Beth Orton and Devendra Banhart. Fellow Drag City recording artist, Alasdair Roberts, a young Scottish troubadour, discovered and championed by Will Oldham, will open the show. You won’t want to miss this closing concert for our summer Sound Series with the Brooklyn-based girl-group trio, Vivian Girls. They were completely buzz worthy at the SXSW festival with their ultra-catchy blends of Shangri-Las like vocals, paired with the washed out shoe-gaze element of My Bloody Valentine, mixed with the post-punk edge of the Wipers. They’ve been on tour recently opening for the likes of Japanther, King Khan BBQ Show and the Crystal Stilts, though they headline when they visit The Warhol. Tickets $12 – www.ticketweb.com
