SUMMARY:Sound Series: Haley Heynderickx & Max García Conover with special guest Kafari
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back Portland-based singer-songwriter Haley Heynderickx\, this time joined by collaborator Max García Conover\, to Carnegie Lecture Hall on a tour supporting their new record\, What Of Our Nature\, on Fat Possum Records. This collaborative record was made in the spirit of Woody Guthrie. From opposite corners of the country\, the two songwriters spent a year sharing songs while reading Woody’s words and biographies\, slowly exploring a patchwork of Americanism to see where their stories fit. García Conover\, half-Puerto Rican\, and Heynderickx\, half-Filipina\, found themselves with this collection of music about the legacy of colonialism\, generational identity\, commercialism and the slippery target of addressing social equity in song. They recorded directly to tape in five days in a barn in Vermont. Pianist and composer\, Kafari\, opens the evening.  \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:Join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a monthly tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. Warhol’s boyfriends\, including Edward Wallowitch\, John Giorno\, and Jed Johnson\, were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States. Tours meet on the museum’s seventh floor.

SUMMARY:Sharif Bey: Homecoming Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a public reception celebrating the exhibition Sharif Bey: Homecoming. Sharif Bey\, a Pittsburgh-born ceramic artist\, sculptor and educator creates complex sculptures inspired by modernism\, functional pottery\, and Oceanic and African art. His monumental ceramic sculptures will be exhibited alongside artwork by Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat from The Warhol’s permanent collection All three artists engage deeply with themes of identity\, culture\, and societal commentary\, and their shared and diverging histories create dynamic dialogues on the complexity of American art. \nHomecoming celebrates community arts education and highlights Pittsburgh’s enduring role as a crucible for artistic innovation\, continuing the city’s rich tradition of supporting local communities and artists—an essential factor in Sharif Bey’s development and emergence as a significant voice in contemporary art.
