DESCRIPTION:In celebration of our 25th anniversary\, the museum will be open and free to the public. Activities throughout the day include hands-on artmaking\, gallery talks and activities\, live performances\, and AWxAW: fifteen minutes of fame\, a participatory art installation created by interdisciplinary artist Alisha Wormsley. Inspired by Warhol’s prophetic quote\, “In the future\, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes\,” Wormsley will transform the museum’s underground studio into a participatory multimedia installation. Visitors will have the opportunity to dress up\, star in a screen test\, get interviewed by a modern-day Andy\, and become famous for 15 minutes as subjects for Alisha Wormsley’s newest film. The Andy Warhol: Revelation exhibition will also be on view. \nJoin us for performances and special appearances throughout the day by: \n\nDavid T. English Puppet Co.\nO’Ryan the O’Mazing!\nAttack Theatre\nAnqwenique Wingfield\nAnd more!\n\n  \nPlease note: The Warhol parking lot and the North Shore parking garage will be closed on Sunday\, October 20. Why are all of Alexa’s favorite things\, like car-shaped beds\, super balls\, and soccer called “boy things?” Can a barber shop be a doorway to a dreamland? What’s it like to be the only boy ballerina? How do you know if someone “gets you?” The answers to these and many more questions can be found in Friends of Dorothy. The short films in Friends of Dorothy are moving\, hilarious\, beautiful and inventive visions of a genderfluid world that will delight all ages. This activity\, inspired by the British Red Cross’s Postcards for Syria project\, allows participants to write their own messages\, produce meaningful imagery\, and create an exchange with refugees under the themes of “hope\, humanity\, and home.” Ai Weiwei\, both artist and activist\, has devoted much of his recent work to the trials of the refugee crisis\, with a new studio on the Greek island of Lesbos—a key point of entry into the European Union for thousands of refugees.

SUMMARY:Art in Action
DESCRIPTION:The Andy Warhol Museum and Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon team up to bring Art and Sport to the patients in Children’s Hospital.  On May 9\, 2011\, volunteers and ChildLife will conduct a 2 hour event based on physical activity as well as pop art sports themed workshop. \nEvery child that participates will receive a Toyota Kids Marathon of Pittsburgh goodie bag\, a Nike Kids Shirt\, and a medal for participation.  Children will be able to silkscreen print their own pop portraits of local athletes and fun characters. Collage pop portraits will also be available for patients who cannot attend the event through the hospital’s bedside cart program. \nThe goal of the event is to bring both the marathon and the museum to kids who are not able to attend these events and programs in the community due to illness. \nActivities include: \n• Walking 2.62 laps around the atrium labyrinth \n• Creating Pop Portrait acetate projects  for each patient (this activity can be done in bed – and could be packaged for kids to complete later) \n• Silkscreen printing station – kids can print portraits using the technique Andy Warhol did – possible screens include local athletes – a custom screen for this event could be made if a local sports celebrity were involved. \n• Taking your picture in front of the Pgh Marathon backdrop with a lifesize photo reproduction of Andy Warhol.
