SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:Join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a monthly tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. Warhol’s boyfriends\, including Edward Wallowitch\, John Giorno\, and Jed Johnson\, were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States. Tours meet on the museum’s seventh floor.

SUMMARY:Miss Fifteen Minutes of Fame Screening
DESCRIPTION:MS 89 is back with a special screening of our 1995 Miss Fifteen Minutes of Fame Pageant\, co-hosted by Harrison Apple (Pittsburgh Queer History Project) and former contestant Jezebel Bebbington D’Opulence (The Puerto Rican Princess of Pittsburgh). Join us for a once in a life-time community nightclub archives event\, taking place in The Warhol theater\, where the pageant played out almost 30 years ago. \nThe MS 89 series is a live and in-person only nightclub archives screening event. Community members host screenings and discussions of tapes that they had a hand in creating. Pushing back against the tendency to consume archives\, MS 89 packs together to watch and rewatch as a ritual in creating new intergenerational friendships via their shared desire for a shared past. \nThis event is made possible by a generous gift from the Dietrich Humanities Scholars Program\, the Frank-Ratchye STUDIO for Creative Inquiry\, and The Andy Warhol Museum. \nAbout Miss Fifteen Minutes of Fame \nThe Miss Fifteen Minutes of Fame Pageant was created by Raina Lampkins-Fielder (former education program coordinator) and Glenn Brown (NYC Ball Scene). With a star studded line-up of contestants and judges from Pittsburgh’s queer nightlife\, Miss Fifteen Minutes of Fame tells a lesser known story of cultural meaning making spanning performers\, museum curators\, and after-dark personalities from the Steel City. The documentary footage was captured and edited by filmmaker Roberta Kenney with editing support from filmmaker Chris Ivey\, and produced in the editing bays of the former Pittsburgh Filmmakers. As a result of interviews with members of the House of D’Opulence\, Apple and Kenney connected to reintroduce this footage by donating her source tapes to the Pittsburgh Queer History Project in 2021. \n\nDoors open at 6 p.m.\n\n

SUMMARY:Adil Mansoor: Amm(i)gone with Operation Sappho DJ’s
DESCRIPTION:Amm(i)gone\, an adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone\, is an apology to and from a mother. Creator and performer Adil Mansoor explores queerness\, the afterlife\, and obligation using canonical texts\, teachings from the Quran\, and audio conversations between him and his mother. Since discovering his queerness\, Mansoor’s mother has turned towards her faith in an attempt to save her son in the afterlife. In an effort towards healing\, Mansoor has invited his mother to join him as dramaturg and co-conspirator. In reading\, discussing\, and translating various adaptations of the source play\, together they mine Greek tragedy\, Islamic traditions\, and their own memories to create an original performance locating love across faith. Can prayer substantiate care? Can care manifest as artistic methodology and inquiry? Can Mansoor and his mother contend with Antigone’s fate? Join us for a post-performance reception with Operation Sappho DJ’s.  \nAmm(i)gone is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation & Development Fund Project co-commissioned by Kelly Strayhorn Theater in partnership with The Theater Offensive and NPN/VAN. The Creation & Development Fund is supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; and the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency). SUMMARY:Sound Series: Lyra Pramuk
DESCRIPTION:We welcome singer\, composer-producer\, performance artist\, and model\, Lyra Pramuk\, on tour supporting her latest album Fountain on the Icelandic label\, Bedroom Community. Pramuk\, who grew up singing in choirs in a rural central Pennsylvania town\, went on to study at Eastman School of Music\, and is currently based in Berlin. Her interests lie primarily at the intersection of electronic pop music and opera\, counting Björk\, Laurie Anderson\, Meredith Monk\, M.I.A\, and Missy Elliot as inspirations. Composed and arranged entirely from the sound of her own voice\, Fountain\, has been described as integrating the intimacies of the club and the emotional multitude of trans experiences into “an excavation of her own body’s resonant possibilities” (Pitchfork)\, envisioning a post-human queer futurity. \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\nMasking is required for this performance.\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this performance must show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination (final vaccine must be dated at least 14 days prior to the performance) at their time of entry with a valid ticket. Proof of vaccination can be shown via the physical card\, a photo of your card\, or digital vaccination passport apps. Guests who do not follow posted safety guidelines or instructions from staff will be asked to leave the premises. Failure to comply with this policy or rude or aggressive behavior will not be tolerated. Please see our Visitor Conduct Policy for more information.\nNotice for all buyers – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh\, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities\, artists\, and the venue; or any of their affiliates\, directors\, officers\, employees\, agents\, contractors\, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.\n\n

SUMMARY:Darrell Thorne at The Warhol
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Good Friday evening of queer dramatic fantasy\, excess\, and opulence infused with storytelling by celebrated performance artist\, Darrell Thorne. Darrell will present a new live performance followed by a discussion with local artist Heidi Wiren Bartlett. \nDarrell Thorne (b. 1976\, Branson\, Missouri) lives and works in Brooklyn\, New York. He enjoys exploring the many dualities and contradictions that exist in all facets of society\, utilizing fantasy\, camp\, and beauty (and plenty of mirrors) to reflect on what unites and divides us. Through song\, spoken word\, movement\, and dance\, coupled with highly detailed costume and makeup\, Darrell invites viewers to be transported and elevated without sacrificing entertainment. A lover of ritual\, iconography\, fantasy\, and storytelling\, Darrell attempts to channel all these elements through costuming and paint on his body\, coupled with live performance. He has exhibited and performed at the Park Avenue Armory\, SFMOMA\, Lincoln Center\, Brooklyn Academy of Music\, Chashama\, New York Academy of Art\, Helsinki Night of Arts\, The Smithsonian\, Rubulad\, The Mexico City Cabaret Festival\, and received an NEA grant for his six week performative installation Under Glass and In Color. \n\nMasks will be optional for this performance.\nNotice for all buyers – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh\, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities\, artists\, and the venue; or any of their affiliates\, directors\, officers\, employees\, agents\, contractors\, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.\n\n
