SUMMARY:A John Waters' Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back by popular demand\, the legendary writer and director\, John Waters\, (Pink Flamingos\, Hairspray\, Cry Baby)\, to the intimate Carnegie Lecture Hall with his critically acclaimed one-man show\, “A John Waters Christmas”. Torn between capitalism and anarchy\, Waters offers his hilariously incisive take on “Christmas crazy\,” spreading his subversive yuletide cheer and lunacy while posing provocative holiday questions\, such as “Is Prancer the only gay reindeer?” and “Should you disrupt living crèche celebrations this year in the name of political action?” \nPlease note this performance contains adult subject matter and strong language. \nVIP tickets include general admission seating and post-show meet and greet. \nDoors open at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Day With(out) Art: ALTERNATE ENDINGS\, ACTIVIST RISINGS
DESCRIPTION:ALTERNATE ENDINGS\, ACTIVIST RISINGS is the 29th iteration of Visual AIDS’ longstanding Day With(out) Art project. Highlighting the impact of art in contemporary AIDS activism and advocacy\, the program features new short videos from six inspiring community organizations and collectives—ACT UP New York\, Positive Women’s Network\, Sero Project\, The SPOT\, Tacoma Action Collective\, and VOCAL-NY.\n \nALTERNTE ENDINGS\, ACTIVIST RISINGS seeks to reflect the persisting urgencies of today’s HIV/AIDS epidemic\, including HIV criminalization\, Big Pharma\, homelessness\, and the disproportionate effects of HIV on marginalized communities. At a moment of growing interest in the histories of AIDS activism\, ALTERNATE ENDINGS\, ACTIVIST RISINGS foregrounds contemporary engagements between activists\, artists\, and cultural workers on the front lines.

SUMMARY:Art in Context: Visibility and Erasure
DESCRIPTION:In 1974 Andy Warhol completed his most lucrative commission—Ladies and Gentlemen\, a series of over 200 striking portraits of African American and Latina drag queens and trans women. The subjects received just $50 to sit for Polaroids in Warhol’s studio\, and they were not named when the work debuted in Italy in 1975. Now over 40 years later researchers at The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts have successfully identified all of Warhol’s subjects in the series\, including iconic transgender performer and activist\, Marsha ‘Pay it No Mind’ Johnson.\n\nJoin us for Happy Birthday\, Marsha! followed by a discussion about visibility\, representation\, and authorship with filmmakers Tourmaline and Sasha Wortzel\, moderated by local advocate Ciora Thomas. Happy Birthday\, Marsha! imagines iconic transgender performer and activist\, Marsha ‘Pay it No Mind’ Johnson in the hours before the 1969 anti-policing riots at the Stonewall Inn in New York City. Starring Independent Spirit Award Winner Mya Taylor with cinematography by Arthur Jafa\, Happy Birthday\, Marsha! blends documentary storytelling with historical fiction to counter the endemic erasure of trans women of color from narratives of political resistance.

SUMMARY:Miguel Gutierrez: SADONNA
DESCRIPTION:SADONNA is exactly what it sounds like: sad versions of Madonna songs. In this music project\, choreographer Miguel Gutierrez shows just how tiny the spiritual distance is between the international pop superstar\, who grew up in Bay City\, Michigan and himself\, an international experimental itinerant artist who grew up in Colonia\, New Jersey. Backed by the SLUTINOS\, the Sad Latino Boys Backup Singers\, SADONNA ekes out the melancholy cry for help hidden within Madonna’s uplifting lyrics. \nPlease note this performance contains adult subject matter and strong language.

He creates speculative fantasies that peer into otherworldly portals and voids and has most notably exhibited with the Institute for New Feeling at MoMA’s PopRally (New York City)\, Recess (New York City)\, Ballroom Marfa (Marfa\, Texas)\, Whitechapel Gallery (London)\, Black Cube (Denver\, Colorado)\, the Hammer Museum (Los Angeles)\, and the J. Paul Getty Museum (Los Angeles). \nAtom Atkinson\nAtom Atkinson is a poet living in Western New York\, a doctoral student at University of Utah\, the Director of Literary Arts at Chautauqua Institution\, and 1/6 of the poetry collective Line Assembly. \nMrs. Kasha Davis\nMrs. Kasha Davis (MKD) is the alter ego of Ed Popil\, season 7 contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race. A “lady\,” an international celebrity housewife\, and that maternal-like character that’s just a hoot and a holler at all family functions. MKD grew up in Scranton\, PA\, graduated from Marywood University with a BA in Theatre\, and was a principal dancer in the Ballet Theatre of Scranton. She can be heard in her one woman show There’s Always Time for a Cocktail. \nVanessa German\nVanessa German makes art that calls in to reckoning\, the submerged narratives that bridge the intersections of intellectual\, physical and spiritual space. Her work considers the living ricochet of racism and its attendant traumas on the body\, spirit\, and earth in the simultaneity of time. She is a 2018 USA artists fellow\, and winner of the 2017 American Academy of Arts and Letters Jacob Lawrence Prize. \nJoseph Hall\nJoseph Hall is a black\, queer\, transracial adoptee\, podcast lover\, creator\, critic\, and youngest of five. He is currently the inaugural Fellow in Creative Writing at the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics\, University of Pittsburgh. \nRyan M. McKelvey\nRyan M. McKelvey’s performances are usually one-to-one encounters or public interventions. Alter egos occasionally get slipped on\, too. Formative years in poetry and theater brought him to collaboration\, drag\, and live art. He has shown work in Seoul\, Brighton\, Bath\, and Pittsburgh. McKelvey also collaboratively devises projects as Home Soil. \nMICHIYAYA Dance\nMICHIYAYA Dance is an all-women contemporary dance theater company co-founded by Anya Clarke and Mitsuko Verdery. Clarke and Verdery are an award-winning\, multimedia duo from New York City that synthesize dance and visual art. Their work has been featured by Yale University\, the Brooklyn Museum\, Foundation for Contemporary Arts\, Opportunity Fund\, THINX\, Baruch Performing Arts Center\, Gibney\, and more. \nSuzie Silver\nSuzie Silver creates art that alludes to the capacity for desire to disrupt social boundaries and imagine new futures. Her well-known early videos\, Freebird and A Spy are canonical works of queer video art. Silver’s videos have been screened at over 100 festivals on five continents. Her ongoing collaboration\, Fairy Fantastic! a fairy and folk tale video series for gender non-conforming kids of all ages\, has screened at festivals in Belarus\, London\, Portugal\, Romania and Australia. \ntheatriQ\ntheatriQ is an LGBTQA+ youth ensemble with Dreams of Hope\, a arts organization supporting young queer and trans people in the Pittsburgh region. The ensemble creates original work addressing LGBTQA+ themes including a full length play every year. The music group writes\, composes\, and performs music for all theatriQ productions. The group released their first album\, Home\, is 2016. \nTheodore Rexx\nBaltimore-based DJ Theodore Rexx’s dynamic fusion of pop music with global and club beats frequently results in many unexpected twists and turns on the dance floor. As a multi-instrumentalist\, he has also laid down the rhythm for numerous artists and bands\, most notably as a percussionist with the Baltimore Ravens Marching Band.

SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month\, join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history every Saturday and Sunday in June. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. Warhol’s boyfriends\, including Edward Wallowitch\, John Giorno\, and Jed Johnson\, were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States. Tours meet on the museum’s seventh floor.

SUMMARY:Erin Markey: BONER KILLER
DESCRIPTION:Comprised of her signature story-driven stand-up and scored by sensual homemade pop\, Erin Markey’s Boner Killer is an intimate musical conversation between what Markey thinks she can’t have and how she’d have it if she could. SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:Join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a monthly tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history.
