SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month\, join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history every Saturday and Sunday in June. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. Warhol’s boyfriends\, including Edward Wallowitch\, John Giorno\, and Jed Johnson\, were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States. Tours meet on the museum’s seventh floor.

SUMMARY:A John Waters' Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back the legendary writer and director\, John Waters (Pink Flamingos\, Hairspray\, Cry Baby)\, to the Carnegie Lecture Hall with his critically acclaimed one-man show\, A John Waters Christmas. Torn between capitalism and anarchy\, Waters offers his hilariously incisive take on “Christmas crazy\,” spreading his subversive yuletide cheer and lunacy while posing provocative holiday questions\, such as “Is Prancer the only gay reindeer?” and “Should you disrupt living crèche celebrations this year in the name of political action?” \nPlease note this performance contains adult subject matter and strong language. \nVIP tickets include general admission seating and post-show meet and greet. \nDoors open at 7:00 p.m.

SUMMARY:Day With(out) Art: ALTERNATE ENDINGS\, RADICAL BEGINNINGS
DESCRIPTION:Curated by Erin Christovale and Vivian Crockett for Visual AIDS\, ALTERNATE ENDINGS\, RADICAL BEGINNINGS\, the 28th iteration of Visual AIDS’ longstanding Day With(out) Art project\, prioritizes Black narratives within the ongoing AIDS epidemic\, commissioning seven artists—Mykki Blanco\, Cheryl Dunye and Ellen Spiro\, Reina Gossett\, Thomas Allen Harris\, Kia Labeija\, Tiona McClodden and Brontez Purnell—to create new and innovative short videos.\n\nThe commissioned projects include intimate meditations of young HIV positive protagonists; a consideration of community-based HIV/AIDS activism in the South; explorations of the legacies and contemporary resonances within AIDS archives; a poetic journey through New York exploring historical traces of queer and trans life\, and more. Together\, the videos provide a platform centering voices deeply impacted by the ongoing epidemic. \nThe project is supported by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and the generous support of The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation.

SUMMARY:Erin Markey: BONER KILLER

SUMMARY:David Wojnarowicz’s film\, A Fire In My Belly
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol is presenting the complete\, two-part version of David Wojnarowicz’s film\, A Fire in My Belly.  This film was recently removed from the exhibition Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture\, at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. after complaints from William Donahue of the Catholic League and Representative John Boehner.  We stand in solidarity with the National Portrait Gallery exhibition curators\, Jonathan Katz and David C. Ward; the estate of David Wojnarowicz; and the international community of contemporary artists and arts organizations\, who all condemn the decision to censor this film. \nOne of the leading artists of the 1980’s\, Wojnarowicz (1954–1992) and his work were deeply influenced by his dystopic childhood and his time as a street hustler in New York.  A self-taught artist\, he created works that might be read as visualizations of his life\, a diary in multiple formations. \nIn addition to A Fire in My Belly (1986-87)\, the artist’s work Untitled (One Day This Kid…) from 1990 is also available as a take-away item for our visitors.  Both the video and the take-away are courtesy of PPOW Gallery\, New York City. \nScreenings continuous during regular Museum hours. \nOur Pittsburgh arts institutions partnership in solidarity to the censorship include the Mattress Factory Museum\, and the Wood Street Galleries. Our partner screening schedules: \nMattress Factory Museum\, 500 Sampsonia Way\, Tuesday through Saturday\, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday 1 – 5 p.m.\, Screening continuous\, through February 13. \nWood Street Galleries\, 601 Wood Street\, Wednesday and Thursday 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.\, Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.\, Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Screening continuous\, through January 30.
