Kawaguchi is also a former member of the Japanese performance collective\, Dumb Type\, and is former director the Tokyo International Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. \nThis seven-city tour of Takao Kawaguchi’s About Kazuo Ohno is produced and organized by Japan Society\, New York and supported by The Japan Foundation Performing Arts JAPAN Program and the Agency for Cultural Affairs\, Government of Japan in the fiscal year 2016.

SUMMARY:Stephen Petronio Company: Merce Cunningham’s RainForest and Petronio’s Locomotor/Non Locomotor
DESCRIPTION:Stephen Petronio has built an astonishing canon of work where music\, visual art\, and fashion collide to heighten bold and engaging modern dance landscapes. Now Petronio revives Merce Cunningham’s iconic RainForest. A must-see for the Pittsburgh dance and art community\, Andy Warhol created his sparkling Silver Clouds especially for RainForest. The floating décor is uncontrollable\, producing a score of movement that cannot play by conventional rules and an atmosphere of free-wheeling anarchy. Locomotor casts Petronio’s virtuosic dancers careening forward and backward through time and space. Non Locomotor\, a companion work\, explores movement deep within a torquing center\, sending surges of action throughout the body while stationary in space. \nThe performance is co-presented with the Pittsburgh Dance Council\, a division of the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. \nTickets $19–55; visit https://trustarts.culturaldistrict.org/production/45876/stephen-petronio-company or call 412-456-6666.

SUMMARY:A John Waters Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes back the legendary and incomparable writer and director John Waters to the opulent Carnegie Music Hall\, with his critically acclaimed one-man show A John Waters Christmas. Torn between capitalism and anarchy\, Waters offers his hilariously incisive take on “Christmas crazy\,” spreading his subversive yuletide cheer and lunacy while feeling “needy\, greedy\, and horny for presents and filled with an unnatural desire to please.” The performance is co-presented with Carnegie Museum of Art and in conjunction with the exhibition Warhol By the Book. \nDirectly following his performance\, Waters will hold a book-signing for performance ticket buyers only featuring his recent titles\, such as Carsick\, Role Models\, and Shock Value\, as well as his annual Christmas t-shirt (available exclusively at the tour show dates). All items will be available for purchase on site. \nPlease note this performance contains adult subject matter and strong language.

SUMMARY:Richard Maxwell / New York City Players: The Evening

SUMMARY:Cynthia Hopkins: A Living Documentary
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes back performance artist Cynthia Hopkins\, whose highly praised ensemble work\, Accidental Nostalgia\, was one of the first larger theater productions presented by the museum and the New Hazlett Theater in 2007. In stark contrast\, Hopkins returns with the stripped-down\, one-woman-show\, A Living Documentary\, in which Hopkins plays both herself and an eclectic cast of characters\, driven by a song cycle of original compositions. Ultimately\, a comedic\, no-nonsense reflection on the trials and tribulations of earning a living as a professional theater artist in the 21st century\, the show combines elements of musical comedy\, documentary\, and fiction\, and it asks a myriad of questions about the realities of artistic life in New York City. \nA Living Documentary was commissioned by New York Live Arts and made possible\, in part\, by the National Endowment for the Arts. This event is co-presented with The Pittsburgh Humanities Festival\, a project of the Humanities Center of Carnegie Mellon University and the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. A Living Documentary was developed\, in part\, through residencies at The Watermill Center (in partnership with New York Arts); Bunker in Slovenia (through the Suitcase Fund); and Mount Tremper Arts.

SUMMARY:Isabella Rossellini in Green Porno
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol and the Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History welcome the iconic actress\, performer and model\, Isabella Rossellini to the Carnegie Music Hall for a special presentation of her one-woman show\, Green Porno. Adapted from the Sundance Channel series of the same name\, Rossellini has crafted a uniquely thoughtful\, odd and comical performance-lecture with projected illustrations that celebrates biodiversity while focusing on mating rituals and insects and marine life – an imaginative tour de force that sits aptly at the intersection of art and science. \nBefore experiencing this special presentation of Green Porno\, at the Carnegie Music Hall\, enjoy a drink and visit to the Museum of Natural History’s After Dark.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall 2013: Nora Chipaumire: Miriam
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol is pleased to partner with the Kelly Strayhorn Theater to welcome back  dancer/choreographer\, Nora Chipaumire. As a much anticipated follow-up to lions will roar…\, a collaboration with fellow Zimbabwean and legendary musician\, Thomas Mapfumo\, (co-presented with the August Wilson Center in 2011) Chipaumire returns with Miriam\, her first character-driven work\, with influences such as of Joseph Conrad’s writings\, the life of South African singer and activist Miriam Makeba; and the Christian iconography of Mary. Accompanied by a dynamic score from Afro-Cuban composer Omar Sosa\, Chipaumire and fellow performer\, Okwui Okpokwasili\, command the stage– both crime scene and sacred space– with a striking performance dealing with the objectification and power of the black female body and the alienating experience of living in exile.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall 2013: Shana Moulton and Nick Hallett: Whispering Pines 10
DESCRIPTION:Whispering Pines 10 is a one-act opera by artist Shana Moulton in collaboration with composer Nick Hallett\, and featuring vocalist Daisy Press.  Directed by Elyse Singer\, it features a live performance by Moulton as her alter ego Cynthia\, a hypochondriac agoraphobe prone to colorful hallucinations and absurd fantasies.  While Cynthia seeks health and total happiness within her virtual environment—an interactive video set that utilizes real-time multimedia techniques its creators call “live animation”—she usually settles for fad cures and new-age kitsch\, creating situations in turn comic\, contemplative\, and surreal. \nWhispering Pines 10 was developed through the Harvestworks Artist In Residence Program with additional support from the Experimental Television Center\, The Kitchen\, New Museum of Contemporary Art\, and Rhizome.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall 2012 – JacobTV: THE NEWS
DESCRIPTION:Dutch composer JacobTV (Jacob Ter Veldhuis) has roots in rock music\, though he studied composition and electronic music at the Groningen Conservatory.  JacobTV\, a controversial maverick within the established modern classical music scene\, has scheduled over 1000 performances worldwide per year.  According to the Wall Street Journal his newest work ‘makes many a hip-hop artist look sedate’. He has a unique “avant pop” sensibility that exists at the high/low crossroads of rock\, pop\, jazz and classical music. As he puts it: ‘I pepper my music with sugar”. It’s seems appropriate that the Dutch press called him the ‘Andy Warhol of new music’. SUMMARY:Off the Wall 2012 – Henry Rollins: The Long March
DESCRIPTION:Spoken word artist\, musician\, actor\, author\, radio talk show host and iconic cultural gadfly\, Henry Rollins\, is above all else a self-described “workaholic\,” and best known as the lead singer for the intense hardcore Rollins Band and the seminal punk band Black Flag.  Rollins has written more than 20 books\, runs his own publishing company and record label 2.13.61.\, and hosts a weekly radio show on L.A.’s renowned NPR affiliate KCRW.  Rollins is also currently a regular columnist for LA Weekly\, and is hosting National Geographic’s new three-part series Animal Underworld with Henry Rollins.  Described by the New York Daily News as “some of the most provocative chit-chat around\,” Henry’s spoken word performances – “talking shows\,” as he calls them – are a seamless (yet seemingly extemporaneous) mix of humor and outrage; pop culture\, political commentary and personal anecdote; healthy skepticism and rugged optimism. \n“Diatribist\, confessor\, provocateur\, humorist\, even motivational speaker…his is an enthusiastic and engaging chatter.” \n– Washington Post
