SUMMARY:Opening Celebration - Tailgate and Tarot Card Party
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a unique combination of tailgate and tarot card reading party\, featuring DJ Huck Finn and DJ Pete Spynda (Pandemic)\, tarot card readings\, scantily clad sports wear models\, and outdoor grilling and beer. \nIntuitive Tarot Readings with Rebecca Bloom\nRebecca Bloom has been an avid\, dedicated student of the Tarot for nearly 20 years and reading professionally for nine. Through the development of Rebecca’s longstanding relationship with the Tarot she has come to understand that Intuition and Creative Power inherently flow through the same channel. As with all art\, the cards themselves may be viewed as individual\, stimulating pictures\, allowing one to gain access to information not readily available on the surface of one’s consciousness. Rebecca’s intuitive abilities combined with her extensive knowledge of the Tarot make her readings inspirational and accurate as well as practical and insightful. Rebecca currently offers Private Readings in person or by phone\, Private Tarot Lessons and Weekly Tarot Classes. She is also available for Private Events/Functions as well as appointments on Fridays and Sundays at the Gypsy Café on the Historic Southside of Pittsburgh. For more information please visit her website at readingswithrebecca.com. \nMixed Signals: Artists Consider Masculinity in Sports\nMixed Signals:  Artists Consider Masculinity in Sports is a traveling exhibition organized and circulated by Independent Curators International (ICI)\, New York. Guest curator for the exhibition is Christopher Bedford.  The exhibition\, tour\, and catalogue are made possible\, in part\, by The Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation\, the ICI Advocates\, the ICI Partners\, Agnes Gund\, Gerrit and Sydie Lansing\, and Barbara and John Robinson. \nMixed Signals is an expanded version of Contemporary Projects 11:  Hard Targets–Masculinity and Sports\, an exhibition curated by Bedford and organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. \nContemporary Magic: A Tarot Deck Art Project\nThe Tarot deck is many things:  revered diviner of knowledge\, feared revealer of hidden secrets\, and critiqued promoter of quackish myth.  Regardless of one’s take on Tarot card reading\, it is certain that the history and imagery of these mysterious cards is ripe territory for contemporary artists to come up with their own interpretations of the 78 personas that make up the standard Tarot deck. And that is exactly what my divine colleague Stacy Engman set about doing as she assembled a group of some of today’s most dynamic artists and asked them to submit a new work based on a tarot card personally assigned by her. \nThe resulting images are just as whimsical as the readings that emerge from an actual reading of the cards.  The amazing group of artists included in the project created cards in a range of media (photography\, painting and collage) and each infused an additional sense of allure and magic into this already heavily charged lam of mystery. Not only may viewers enjoy the actual works in the exhibition of the original cards\, but they may also take them home in this unique catalogue in the form of a deck of Tarot cards in and of itself! \nCurated by Stacy Engman. This Exhibition is Made Possible by KLÜP Foundation.
