SUMMARY:Sound Series: An Evening with Buffalo Nichols
DESCRIPTION:We welcome the acclaimed guitarist and songwriter Buffalo Nichols (aka Carl Nichols) for a solo performance in the museum’s intimate theater. Looking to bring the blues of the past into the future\, Nichols\, who has also studied punk\, West African music\, and Ukrainian folk\, has recently released his self-titled debut album on Fat Possum Records\, the label’s first solo blues signing in almost 20 years. As Nichols explains\, “Part of my intent\, making myself more comfortable with this release\, is putting more Black stories into the genres of folk and blues.”\n \n\nBuffalo Nichols performance begins at 8 p.m.\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:We welcome the San Antonio-based experimental and ambient sound artist and percussionist\, Claire Rousay\, for a solo performance in the museum’s intimate theater.   \nHer compositions employ field recordings of her environment\, including voicemails and conversations. Rousay has collaborated with a wide range of musicians including More Eaze\, Jacob Wick\, and Ken Vandermark and she has performed her work at such venues as Constellation Chicago\, Issue Project Room\, and the Tobin Center for Performing Arts (San Antonio). Pittsburgh-based songwriter and performer\, Merce Lemon\, will open the evening. \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.
