DESCRIPTION:Our Sensory Friendly Morning Workshops are developed specifically so that teens and young adults (ages 13-24) with sensory sensitivity needs can experience the museum in a way that works for them. These workshops begin before the museum is open to the general public\, and we explore the galleries as a group before applying Warhol’s techniques to our own work in our basement studio. Attendance is limited to 20 people. We provide fidgets\, noise cancelling headphones\, and other accommodations. A visual schedule and other orientation materials will be provided in the weeks before each workshop. Please contact accessibility@warhol.org with specific questions or needs. \n\nDoors open at 8:45 a.m.\nFree parking available in The Warhol lot.\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this event must wear a face mask that covers both the nose and mouth. SUMMARY:“Visioning the Future” Teen Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join The Warhol and guest artists Ariana Brown and Alan Palaez Lopez in this virtual creative writing workshop where teens get the chance to write the worlds that they want to live in. Workshop participants will work together as a community to find answers to questions like: What was life before the apocalypse? What do we deserve as a people in order to propel into safe and healing futures? And\, what is easy in the future that was terrifying in 2020? \nAriana Brown is a queer Black Mexican American poet from San Antonio\, Texas. She is the author of Sana Sana\, a poetry chapbook with Game Over Books\, and a 2014 national collegiate poetry slam champion. Ariana’s work investigates queer Black personhood in Mexican American spaces\, queer Black futures\, loneliness\, and healing. She has been writing\, performing\, and teaching poetry for ten years. They are the author of Intergalactic Travels: poems from a fugitive alien (The Operating System\, 2020) and to love and mourn in the age of displacement (Nomadic Press\, 2020). Much of their writing honors the messiness of grief\, love\, social movements\, and reconciliation. DESCRIPTION:Put on your most comfortable party outfit and join us for a sensory-friendly evening of dancing\, socializing\, and artmaking. This event is planned specifically for and with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and those with sensory sensitivities. A live DJ will spin dance classics and take musical requests\, and our adjustable wireless headphones will allow participants to choose their own volume levels or opt out. There will be an enclosed sensory friendly area on the first floor where partygoers can decompress or connect in a calm manner. \nThe Factory underground studio will be open for silkscreen printing and other art projects. Guests can also submit their own designs that will be turned into silkscreens and acetate collages for the event. To submit\, email a high-resolution (300 dpi) jpeg image of your art to access@warhol.org by October 25\, 2019. \nThis event is open to teens and their families from 6–8 p.m. and is 21+ after 8 p.m.

SUMMARY:LGBTQ+ Youth Prom Planning Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Do you want your voice heard in the planning of our LGBTQ+ Youth Prom? Our Youth Prom Planning Committee meets regularly on a drop-in basis leading up to the LGBTQ+ Youth Prom. LGBTQ+ youth and allies ages 13-20 are invited to attend. These meetings are the best way to get involved in the largest LGBTQ+ Youth Prom in Southwestern Pennsylvania! \nAll meetings will take place in our education studio. We provide transportation support\, food\, and a Prom ticket to all Planning Committee members\, whether you attend one meeting or all five meetings. Committee members should use the museum’s security entrance on East General Robinson street.
