DESCRIPTION:We welcome Canadian singer-songwriter and composer\, Patrick Watson\, to Carnegie Lecture Hall on a tour supporting his forthcoming album Uh Oh which features a varied\, high-profile roster of collaborators including Charlotte Cardin\, Charlotte Oleena\, Hohnen Ford\, Klô Pelgag\, La Force\, MARO\, Martha Wainwright\, November Ultra\, and Solann. Watson\, a Polaris Music winner in 2006\, has five gold albums in Canada and over the course of his career\, has retained the uncanny ability to coexist in mainstream pop-culture spaces and on the avant-garde fringes. Singer-songwriter\, La Force (aka Ariel Engle)\, opens the evening. \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\n\n \n  \nPatrick Watson composes\, performs\, and records his albums with his long-time bandmate and collaborator and multi-instrumentalists Mishka Stein and Olivier Fairfield. The Canadian artist reached gold and platinum status in over multiple countries (including five certified gold albums in Canada)\, and his shows sell out around the world. Over the course of his career\, Watson has retained the uncanny ability to coexist in mainstream pop-culture spaces and on the avant-garde fringes. His songs have been featured in primetime crowd-pleasers like Grey’s Anatomy and This Is Us\, as well as in multiple arthouse films from Denis Villeneuve (Polytechnique)\, Wim Wenders (Perfect Days) \,and Philippe Falardeau (C’est pas moi\, je le jure!) and more. He’s an artist who’s as comfortable performing impromptu pop-up shows on the train tracks in a Quebec mining town as he is leading the BBC Orchestra at London’s prestigious Barbican. DESCRIPTION:Put on your most comfortable party outfit and join our welcoming staff for a sensory friendly evening of dancing\, socializing\, and artmaking. This event is planned specifically to support the enjoyment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders and those with sensory sensitivities. A live DJ will spin dance classics and our adjustable wireless headphones allow participants to choose their own volume levels or opt out. There will be an enclosed sensory friendly area on the first floor where partygoers can decompress or connect in a calm manner. The underground studio will be open for guests to enjoy silkscreen printing and other art projects. DESCRIPTION:Learn to build and blend your own remixes that will get everyone on the dance floor! Presented in partnership with Tech 25\, the Teen DJ Academy is a 14-week workshop series for participants ages 13–18 taught by professional DJs. Participants will get hands-on experience with pro gear and perform at Youth Invasion\, LGBTQ+ Prom\, and other teen events. This program is free and participants will earn a stipend for the 15 week program plus an additional stipend per performance. Space is limited. DESCRIPTION:We welcome Tarta Relena\, the experimental folk duo\, comprised of Helena Ros Redon and Marta Torrella i Martínez\, who explore the rich vocal traditions of the Mediterranean\, singing in languages such as classical Greek\, Italian\, Spanish\, Latin\, Catalan\, Ladino\, and more. Their music blends sacred and secular influences\, drawing inspiration from flamenco\, lyrical song\, traditional music and electronic experimentation. Renowned for their captivating live performances in which they craft a vibrant sonic world where the past and future converge\, Tarta Relena has been featured at festivals like Sónar\, Le Guess Who?\, Mutek\, Big Ears\, and Primavera Sound.  \nTo open the evening\, composer and artist Meara O’Reilly’s Hockets For Two Voices will be performed by Mingjia Chen & Linnea Sablosky. Her Hockets for Two Voices album was named in several 2019 year-end best-of lists\, including Artforum\, Bandcamp\, and Second Inversion\, and her work has been presented at such varied venues as Carnegie Hall\, National Sawdust\, and SFMOMA. Linnea Sablosky is an LA-based musician with a passion for close harmony and intricate rhythms who grew up studying Balkan singing and West African drumming and they have toured internationally with world folk choir Northern Harmony. DESCRIPTION:Amp’d Ensemble is a project blending the elements of virtuosic & soulful acoustic instrumentation with amplified\, dubbed\, and distorted electronic manipulation. Led by Herman “Soy Sos” Pearl in collaboration with James Johnson III (drums) and Erik Lawrence (woodwinds)\, the compositions range from ambient drone to fluid percussive experimentation. \nSound designer/engineer Herman “Soy Sos” Pearl is the co-founder and co-artistic director of PearlArts. With over 40 years of experience in music and sound\, Herman is an inventive and detailed producer known for his genre-bending collaborations. He also produces soundscapes for PearlArts performances\, and is an active recording producer and mentor. He teaches emerging sound engineers through the Tuff Sound Apprenticeship Program at PearlArts. \nJames Johnson III is a versatile musician who effortlessly navigates various musical genres. His journey began at Pittsburgh’s High School for the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) under the mentorship of jazz legend Roger Humphries\, which laid the foundation for his remarkable career. He has performed regularly with jazz pianist Ahmad Jamal and serves as an artist in residence at the University of Pittsburgh School of Music. He is also a faculty member at the Afro-American Music Institute\, a Pittsburgh institution dedicated to preserving the heritage of African American music. \nErik Lawrence has toured the world as a saxophonist\, flutist\, and composer. He currently performs solo and with his own group\, Erik Lawrence Trio and Hipmotism and co-leads a band with his Jazz vocalist sister\, Marya Lawrence\, featuring Cameron Brown on bass and Ben Perowsky on drums. He has also taught music and poetry\, elements of jazz in colleges and universities including Williams College\, Montclair State University\, and artist-in-residencies at Dartmouth College and the Williams College Museum of Art\, and has given lectures and demonstrations at Music Therapy symposiums. \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. DESCRIPTION:In 1965\, Andy Warhol fully transitioned the Factory from a painting studio to a film studio. By then\, he had announced his “retirement” from painting and although he never completely abandoned the medium\, his dedication to filmmaking led to the creation of nearly 30 films that year alone. Warhol’s film techniques evolved\, beginning with incorporating sound into his films and allowing others to guide the production of the film itself. Part of his goal was to make “bad” movies because “when you do something that’s exactly wrong\, you always turn up something.” \nOur daily theater screenings feature a selection of Warhol’s films from 1965 that showcase his masterful techniques of being a subversive and experimental filmmaker. \n\nPlease note that due to potential conflicts\, this schedule is subject to change. DESCRIPTION:Andy Warhol: Vanitas explores the ephemeral nature of life as seen through the eyes of one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century. Warhol\, a pivotal figure in the Pop Art movement\, was strongly influenced by his Byzantine Catholic upbringing and the religious iconography that pervaded his early life. This spiritual undercurrent appears throughout his oeuvre\, where themes of mortality\, vanity\, and the passage of time are recurrent motifs. \nJoin us in exploring this new exhibition and mingle with fellow members over light refreshments.
