SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History
DESCRIPTION:Join artist educators for Dandy Andy\, a monthly tour that focuses on Warhol’s queer history. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. Warhol’s boyfriends\, including Edward Wallowitch\, John Giorno\, and Jed Johnson\, were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States. Tours meet on the museum’s seventh floor.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: @
DESCRIPTION:We welcome indie folk-pop duo @ (pronounced as “at”)\, consisting of songwriters Victoria Rose and Stone Filipczak. Their debut album Mind Palace Music (2023) on Carpark Records garnered much praise from outlets such as Pitchfork\, FADER\, Stereogum and Brooklyn Vegan\, and NPR described the album as “a fascinating blend of acoustic instruments\, folk harmonies\, electronic production and a good dose of strangeness.” Their latest album Autosmile\, on the iconic indie label 4AD\, reflects their unique approach to the psychedelic folk tradition. \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Leenalchi
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Leenalchi\, a highly innovative and genre-defying South Korean alternative pop band formed in 2019\, renowned for fusing traditional pansori (musical storytelling) with infectious melodies and rhythms. The band is on Luaka Bop\, a record label founded by David Byrne\, and their distinct sound often draws comparisons to the Talking Heads. Their overall aesthetic has been shaped in part by visionary bassist Young Gyu Jang\, who has also created several horror film soundtracks and was a member of the iconic art band SsingSsing\, which Tiny Desk’s Bob Boilen described as “one of my most memorable Tiny Desk Concerts of all time.” \n“Leenalchi has changed the way I think about music\, dancing and Korea. I have never heard anything quite like this.” — Brian Eno \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nLeenalchi’s performance begins at 8 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. Limited seating is available upon advance request. We are committed to offering inclusive\, engaging experiences for people of all abilities. SUMMARY:Night of Death and Disaster
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Halloween celebration\, a Night of Death and Disaster! Come dressed in your best macabre couture as we dive deep into Warhol’s darker side for a night of eerie revelry\, but help us protect our collection. No masks\, wings\, tails or other props that could bump the artwork. This celebration sold out last year. Don’t miss out. \n\nDJ set by Second Skin (Erica Scary & Huck Finn)\nTarot readings by Three3Three and Pgh Astrology\nTake home your own spooky poems typed on a typewriter live by Sprouts of Consciousness\nTheremin performance by Ben Opie on the sixth floor\nFloral arrangements and decor by greenSinner\nPlease note: This event is for ages 21+.\n\nVIP tickets include two free drink tickets and an exclusive VIP-only hour from 7-8 p.m. \nIn his Death and Disaster series\, Warhol explored the impact of images taken out of a journalistic context and framed\, through repetition\, as works of art. Some of the photographs that Warhol chose as source images for this series depict horrific scenes. Others focus on a narrative that may not be obvious\, but is symbolic of death and disaster nonetheless\, such as the Electric Chair and Jackie series. In all of these works\, Warhol repeated images to mirror the repetition evident in society through media and technology.
