SUMMARY:Sound Series: Fuji||||||||||ta
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Japanese experimental sound artist\, FUJI||||||||||TA (pronounced Fujita) on his first U.S. tour. His unique practice utilizes various natural phenomena that respond to his interest in wanting to hear unheard sounds and noises. In 2009\, Fujita hand fabricated a pipe organ that has only 11 pipes and no keyboard. Designed to create a soundscape rather than function as a more traditional musical instrument\, he has added a water element\, with sound synthesized water tanks. The music blends water sounds from multiple aquariums alongside his pipe organ and voice. Since 2006 he has had many solo performances and collaborative works with musicians\, including ∈Ｙ ∋ (Boredoms)\, Akio Suzuki\, Keiji Haino and Koichi Makigami. He has presented his sound installation works in many contexts and was exhibited in Sapporo International Art Festival 2017.\n \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\nMasking is optional for this performance.\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this performance must show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination (final vaccine must be dated at least 14 days prior to the performance) at their time of entry with a valid ticket. SUMMARY:Adil Mansoor: Amm(i)gone with Operation Sappho DJ’s
DESCRIPTION:Amm(i)gone\, an adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone\, is an apology to and from a mother. Creator and performer Adil Mansoor explores queerness\, the afterlife\, and obligation using canonical texts\, teachings from the Quran\, and audio conversations between him and his mother. Since discovering his queerness\, Mansoor’s mother has turned towards her faith in an attempt to save her son in the afterlife. In an effort towards healing\, Mansoor has invited his mother to join him as dramaturg and co-conspirator. In reading\, discussing\, and translating various adaptations of the source play\, together they mine Greek tragedy\, Islamic traditions\, and their own memories to create an original performance locating love across faith. Can prayer substantiate care? Can care manifest as artistic methodology and inquiry? Can Mansoor and his mother contend with Antigone’s fate? Join us for a post-performance reception with Operation Sappho DJ’s.  \nAmm(i)gone is a National Performance Network (NPN) Creation & Development Fund Project co-commissioned by Kelly Strayhorn Theater in partnership with The Theater Offensive and NPN/VAN. The Creation & Development Fund is supported by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; and the National Endowment for the Arts (a federal agency). For more information\, visit www.npnweb.org. Amm(i)gone is additionally supported by the Frank-Ratchye Fund for Art @ the Frontier; the Point Foundation’s Andrew A. Isen Internship; The Heinz Endowments’ Small Arts Initiative; Opportunity Fund; PNC Charitable Trust; A. W. Mellon Educational and Charitable Trust Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation; Arts\, Equity\, Reimagined Fund; and Dreams of Hope. \n\nDoors open at 6:30 p.m.\nMasks will be required for this performance.\nNotice for all buyers – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh\, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities\, artists\, and the venue; or any of their affiliates\, directors\, officers\, employees\, agents\, contractors\, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.\n\n

SUMMARY:Bird Banding Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:Join Chief Curator Jose Diaz and avian conservation biologist Nick G. Liadis for an outdoor field trip to Fenelton\, Pennsylvania. Experience extraordinary bird observations and a visit to the Twin Stupas\, an earthwork by artist Angelo Ciotti. The land—owned by the Ciotti family—hosts a diversity of avian life that migrate from as far away as the Amazon rainforest. They use the stupas\, a rejuvenated valley\, as their migratory stopover during the summer\, making it an ideal location for bird banding and research. After years of degradation\, including mining and Christmas tree farming\, these colorful birds are adapting to the reclaimed nature at the Twin Stupas and bring to mind the exhibition Paola Pivi: I Want It All. \nThis program is approximately one hour away from Pittsburgh. A bus to and from the museum will be provided as well as a boxed lunch. Further details will be sent prior to the event. \n\nMasking is optional for this event.\nNotice for all buyers – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh\, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities\, artists\, and the venue; or any of their affiliates\, directors\, officers\, employees\, agents\, contractors\, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.\n\n

SUMMARY:Darrell Thorne at The Warhol
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a Good Friday evening of queer dramatic fantasy\, excess\, and opulence infused with storytelling by celebrated performance artist\, Darrell Thorne. Darrell will present a new live performance followed by a discussion with local artist Heidi Wiren Bartlett. \nDarrell Thorne (b. 1976\, Branson\, Missouri) lives and works in Brooklyn\, New York. He enjoys exploring the many dualities and contradictions that exist in all facets of society\, utilizing fantasy\, camp\, and beauty (and plenty of mirrors) to reflect on what unites and divides us. Through song\, spoken word\, movement\, and dance\, coupled with highly detailed costume and makeup\, Darrell invites viewers to be transported and elevated without sacrificing entertainment. A lover of ritual\, iconography\, fantasy\, and storytelling\, Darrell attempts to channel all these elements through costuming and paint on his body\, coupled with live performance. He has exhibited and performed at the Park Avenue Armory\, SFMOMA\, Lincoln Center\, Brooklyn Academy of Music\, Chashama\, New York Academy of Art\, Helsinki Night of Arts\, The Smithsonian\, Rubulad\, The Mexico City Cabaret Festival\, and received an NEA grant for his six week performative installation Under Glass and In Color. \n\nMasks will be optional for this performance.\nNotice for all buyers – By attending an in-person event at any of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh\, you and any guests agree to voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold any presenting entities\, artists\, and the venue; or any of their affiliates\, directors\, officers\, employees\, agents\, contractors\, or volunteers liable for any illness or injury.\n\n

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Ata Kak with special guest DJ Pandemic Pete
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Ata Kak\, the mysterious\, underground Ghanaian electronic/rap/highlife icon\, for a rare appearance as part of a North American tour performing his cult classic Obaa Sima cassette\, originally self-released (and overlooked) in Ghana in 1994. It was also the inspiration for American musicologist Brian Shimkovitz’s blog Awesome Tapes From Africa launched in 2002\, and the cassette was eventually released as an LP in 2015. Ata Kak’s unique sound has been described as a hybrid of highlife\, rap\, funk\, hip-hop\, and electronica\, presented with the sweaty passion of a Prince record and the lo-fi recording charm of early Chicago house music. Local world music DJ Pandemic Pete opens the evening.\n \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. Limited seating is available upon advance request. We are committed to offering inclusive\, engaging experiences for people of all abilities. To request accommodations to enhance your visit\, please contact access@warhol.org or call 412.237.8354.\nMasking is optional for this performance.\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this performance must show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination (final vaccine must be dated at least 14 days prior to the performance) at their time of entry with a valid ticket. SUMMARY:Future Tense: Microcinema Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of films and conversation with co-curators Barbara London and Ellen Larson.  \nWe are living in a time of crisis. Anxieties about the future and questions concerning the sustainability of the planet and its inhabitants have never felt more urgent. Selected films highlight both the fragility and resilience of human ingenuity in relationship to nature\, space\, and place. Participating artists: Imani Dennison\, Fang Tianyu\, Thomas Allen Harris\, Pedro Neves Marques\, Joan Michel\, Su Yu-Hsin\, Wang Mowen\, and Zheng Yuan.  \nBarbara London is a New York-based curator and writer who founded the video-media exhibition and collection programs at The Museum of Modern Art\, where she worked between 1973 and 2013.
