If you have any questions\, please contact us at 412.237.8300. \nAl Cerulo has been praised for his work as a musician and educator both nationally and internationally and is an advocate for the commissioning and performing of new works by both established and up-and-coming composers to help move forward and breathe new life into the art.  \nAmplified Perception is a seventy-five-minute soundscape sculpted through the music of five composers whose compositional styles are each uniquely beautiful: Jude Traxler\, Eve Beglarian\, Mathew Rosenblum\, Paula Matthusen\, and Randy Gibson. Writing for a single voice\, each composer enhances the acoustic timbre of their instrument with live amplification and/or digital processing. Featuring sound design by Jude Traxler and a prelude and postlude of pre-recorded media by Cerulo and Echo Artifact\, the journey will take the listener through various sound worlds–from the ambient to periodic to unearthly. \n \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this performance must show proof of a Covid-19 vaccination (final vaccine must be dated at least 14 days prior to the performance) at their time of entry with a valid ticket. SUMMARY:Counterbalance: Redefining the Archive
DESCRIPTION:In coordination with the exhibition Marisol and Warhol Take New York\, join us for a night of film\, conversation\, and music. Alisha Wormsley\, a Pittsburgh-based artist\, has curated a selection of experimental artist films to celebrate the often-overlooked place of female filmmakers in film history. Inspired by Marisol’s narrative of great acclaim during her lifetime and the subsequent erasure of her place from art history\, Wormsley selected films from six artists\, including Akosua Adoma Owusu\, Beatriz Santiago Muñoz\, Cauleen Smith\, Malakai\, Nan Collymore\, and Kite\, who are making important contributions to reimagining the archive and the advancement of experimental film. The evening includes an introduction from Jessica Beck\, Milton Fine curator of art and organizer of the exhibition\, an introduction to each film by Wormsley and a screening of each film. The night will conclude with music by Pittsburgh-based DJ\, Jessica Fuquay. Registration is required. \nFilms\nDrexciya\nAkosua Adoma Owusu\nSet in an abandoned swimming pool in Accra\, Ghana\, Akosua Adoma Owusu’s Drexciya draws on the myth from the Detroit-based electronic band to create an afrofuturist portrait of an underwater subcontinent populated by the unborn children of African women thrown overboard during the Transatlantic slave trade. The Riviera was once known as Ghana’s first pleasure beach. A one-time extravagant Ambassador Hotel of post- colonial – early Kwame Nkrumah era\, the Riviera Beach Club thrived until the mid-1970’s. The Olympic-sized pool\, now in a dilapidated state\, is used for locals for things other than swimming. \nMarché Salomon\nBeatriz Santiago Muñoz\nTwo young workers at a busy Port-au-Prince open-air market have a conversation about the mystical properties of common objects and whether the divine can inhabit any kind of object—mass-produced bottles\, toxic rivers\, beheaded goats. \nPilgrim\nCauleen Smith\nA live recording of an Alice Coltrane piano performance accompanied by a visual track that documents a pilgrimage across the USA taken by Cauleen Smith\, tracing historic sites of creativity and generosity that were an inspiration to her: Alice Coltrane’s Sai Anantam Ashram; the Watts Towers; and the Watervliet Shaker Historic District. \nSouls\nMalakai\nUnable to deal with her grandmother’s declining mental and physical health\, a young girl uses her cardboard spaceship to escape her reality before the matriarch of her family dies. \nFlâneuse\nNan Collymore\nGrounded in the idea of what Baudelaire described as the “flâneur”—here the shoe is used as a conceit for the true flâneur—the flâneuse—to use as a mode of transport. DESCRIPTION:Join us for the 36th annual Reel Q LGBTQ+ film festival at The Warhol! Reel Q is the longest running film festival in the Pittsburgh region and the sixth oldest LGBTQ+ film festival in the entire world.   \nWatch the award-winning documentary Workhorse Queen\, followed by a panel discussion with director Angela Washko\, stars Mrs. Kasha Davis\, Mr. Davis (Steven Levins)\, and Ambrosia Salad\, moderated by John Musser (Veronica Bleaus). The screening will be followed by a free reception with Jellyfish DJs\, a cash bar\, and live drag performances by The Hot Boys (Anna Azizzy\, Sienna Cittadino\, BB Kenda)\, Akasha L. Van Cartier\, Dixie Surewood\, Ambrosia Salad (Rochester)\, and Mrs. Kasha Davis (RuPaul’s Drag Race). \nAbout Workhorse Queen\nBy day\, Ed Popil worked as a telemarketer in Rochester\, New York for 18 years. By night\, he transformed into drag queen Mrs. Kasha Davis\, a 1960’s era housewife trying to liberate herself from domestic toil through performing at night in secret – a homage to Ed’s mother. After seven years of auditioning to compete on RuPaul’s Drag Race\, Ed Popil was finally cast onto the tv show and thrust into a full-time entertainment career at the late age of 44. In addition to following Popil’s life and career before and after being cast onto RuPaul’s Drag Race\, the film focuses on the growing divide between members of a small town drag community–those who have been on television\, and those who have not. \n\nDoors open at 6:45 p.m.\nPlease note: Per CDC Guidelines\, for your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this event must wear a face mask that covers both the nose and mouth. Presented by The Warhol’s Sound Series\, a varied roster of artists will perform on a stage adjacent to the museum on Isabella Street\, including Pastor Deryck Tines & the Lemington Chorale\, Tomberlin\, Andy Shauf\, 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests\, featuring Dean & Britta\, and Dean Wareham plays Galaxie 500’s On Fire. \nEntrance at Federal and Isabella Streets. \nSchedule\n3 p.m. Pastor Deryck Tines & the Lemington Chorale \nWe kick off the day with a high-energy\, spiritually-energizing\, and soul-stirring set by Pastor Deryck Tines and Pittsburgh’s Lemington Chorale. Tines will lead this group of dynamic singers though a medley of gospel songs\, spirituals\, and hymns celebrating black history\, spirituality\, and soul\, from his recently released live album We Shall Overcome Someday. \n4:30 p.m. Tomberlin \nWe welcome singer/songwriter Tomberlin (aka Sarah Beth Tomberlin) for an intimate solo performance as part of tour with Andy Shauf\, supporting her latest EP Projections on Saddle Creek Records. Originally from Jacksonville\, Florida\, Tomberlin moved around a bit growing up as a result of her father’s work as a Baptist pastor. She moved to Louisville in 2017 and released her first album At Weddings\, featuring her sparse arrangements and vivid lyrics\, produced by Owen Pallett. \n6 p.m. Andy Shauf \nWe welcome the songwriter Andy Shauf\, and are pleased to reschedule his performance from June so that he and his band could be part of our Sound Series: Block Party\, as part of a tour supporting his most recent\, highly lauded album Neon Skyline on ANTI records. His music is often described as reflecting the Canadian prairie with a unique blend of hushed vocals\, vivid lyrics\, and intricately crafted arrangements\, drawing on influences such as Neil Young\, Wilco\, and Elliot Smith. \n7:30 p.m. 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests\, featuring Dean & Britta \nIn celebration of its 13th anniversary\, we’re thrilled to bring back\, 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests. The performance\, which consists of commissioned soundtracks by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips for a selection of Warhol’s silent film portraits\, toured extensively after its premiere in Pittsburgh in October 2008\, playing over 85 dates over eight years. The 13th anniversary tour will provide audiences with another opportunity to experience this critically lauded performance with newly digitized HD versions of the films. The project resulted in the first official release of early Warhol films on DVD\, which was produced in collaboration with Plexifilm. \n13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests\, a project jointly commissioned by The Andy Warhol Museum and Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts 2008. \n9 p.m. Dean Wareham plays Galaxie 500’s On Fire \nThe Warhol’s inaugural Sound Series: Block Party closes with a seamless transition from 13 Most Beautiful…Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests to a special set of Galaxie 500’s seminal album On Fire\, performed by the same band\, featuring Dean Wareham\, Britta Phillips\, Anthony LaMarca\, and Matt Sumrow. Wareham\, who formed Galaxie 500 in 1987 and Luna in 1991\, has also recorded several albums with his wife Britta Phillips as Dean & Britta\, and beyond working with Andy Warhol’s films\, they have scored films such as The Squid & The Whale and Mistress America by Noah Baumbach. Most recently they released A Sentimental Education\, an album of covers\, and A Place of Greater Safety\, an EP of 6 instrumentals on Double Feature Records. \n\nThe Sound Series Block Party is rain or shine. SUMMARY:Naama Tsabar: Live Performance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a live performance by artist Naama Tsabar\, whose work is featured in our current exhibition Fantasy America. Motivated by her film Stranger\, Tsabar and sonic collaborator Kristin Mueller negotiate the use of an instrument made from two attached chromed plated electric guitars. The musicians will explore the use of the object both separately and together\, resulting in a dance that moves through gentle and violent states. Tsabar pushes against gender norms\, especially those that privilege male musicians\, to examine female empowerment and liberation. \nNaama Tsabar (b. 1982\, Israel) lives and works in New York. She received her MFA from Columbia University in 2010. Solo exhibitions and performances have been presented at the Guggenheim Museum\, Museum of Art and Design\, The High Line Art\, Nasher Museum\, Kunsthuas Baselland\, Palais De Tokyo\, Prospect New Orleans\, and Tel Aviv Museum of Art\, among others. Selected group exhibitions include The Jewish Museum of Belgium\, Ballroom Marfa\, and Greater New York at MoMA PS1. DESCRIPTION:Pop in on weekends for free\, hands-on outdoor art activities all summer long! Pop Art Pop Up takes place in a shaded tent across the street from The Warhol. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a number of Warhol-inspired artmaking activities\, including painting\, collage\, stamping\, silkscreen printing\, photography\, and more. This event is free and open to the public\, with no charge for entry or supplies. \nThis summer our Green Space will also feature Reprogrammed\, a public art installation presented by our Youth Arts Council. Reprogrammed reflects on the unprecedented challenges and disruptions of 2020-2021 and envisions a brighter and more inclusive future. Visitors to the Pop Art Pop Up tent can add their own reflections to the changing\, collaborative installation\, or make their own pieces to display at home.

SUMMARY:Dandy Andy: Warhol’s Queer History Virtual Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join our educators for an exploration of Warhol’s unique place in LGBTQ+ history in this virtual adaptation of one of our signature tours. While his sexuality is frequently suppressed or debated\, Warhol was a gay man who had several partners throughout his life. His boyfriends were also his colleagues and collaborators\, helping to shape and define his career as an artist. This tour traces Warhol’s romantic relationships and queer identity against the backdrop of the historical gay rights movement in the United States.

DESCRIPTION:We’re proud to present Starshine!\, a unique theater experience developed by Jumping Jack Theater specifically for children (grades K-5) and families with sensory sensitivities. Take a sensory enriched journey through the galaxy. Cozy up in the magic of the sky as you gaze at constellations\, dance with asteroids\, hear the soothing sounds of space\, and even lend a helping hand so that every star can shine its brightest. Stars are unique just like you! Starshine! takes place outdoors and within Jumping Jack Theater’s new mobile storytelling trailer. Jumping Jack Theater will bring you a safe\, effortless and sensory-friendly production that will leave you feeling inspired and ready to soar! Seating is strictly limited to one group with a maximum of three people per performance\, and each group must include at least one caregiver. All Covid-19 health and safety protocols will be followed. The performers are fully vaccinated and masked for everyone’s safety.

DESCRIPTION:Join our educators for a series of Virtual Workshops for early learners\, ages 3–6. Participants will engage in a mix of storytelling\, hands-on synchronous art making\, movement and independent exploration. \nFrom Warhol’s illustrations in the 1950s to his iconic silkscreen prints in the 1960s and beyond\, images of flowers are prominent in The Warhol’s collection. His mother\, Julia\, was an artist in her own right and made tin can and crepe paper flowers when Warhol was growing up. You’ll make our own cheery bouquets using an adaptation of Julia’s technique. \nSee all of our Virtual Workshops for Early Learners. \nPlease note: This will be a live online workshop. Caregivers are required to stay with their child for the duration of the workshop. A computer or tablet with a camera and microphone\, along with stable internet connection are needed to participate. Art projects can be completed with common art supplies and objects found around the house. Supply lists vary from workshop to workshop. Files for supplemental worksheets and project templates will be emailed to registrants to be downloaded and printed at home. Arrangements can be made to have printouts mailed\, if needed.

Returning to our intimate theater\, with collaborator Nathan Salsburg\, supporting her latest release\, Like the River Loves the Sea on No Quarter Records. The album\, recorded at Iceland’s Greenhouse Studio\, has received high critical praise and features fellow Kentuckian Will Oldham on vocals. Though the focus remains on Shelley’s pure voice and weaving guitar picking\, this album features levitating and ambient textures from violin and cello orchestrations of Icelandic sisters Þórdís Gerður Jónsdóttir and Sigrún Kristbjörg Jónsdóttir. Multi-instrumentalist Nathan Bowles\, from Durham\, NC\, opens the show. \nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:“Visioning the Future” Teen Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Join The Warhol and guest artists Ariana Brown and Alan Palaez Lopez in this virtual creative writing workshop where teens get the chance to write the worlds that they want to live in. Workshop participants will work together as a community to find answers to questions like: What was life before the apocalypse? What do we deserve as a people in order to propel into safe and healing futures? And\, what is easy in the future that was terrifying in 2020? \nAriana Brown is a queer Black Mexican American poet from San Antonio\, Texas. She is the author of Sana Sana\, a poetry chapbook with Game Over Books\, and a 2014 national collegiate poetry slam champion. Ariana’s work investigates queer Black personhood in Mexican American spaces\, queer Black futures\, loneliness\, and healing. She has been writing\, performing\, and teaching poetry for ten years. Find her poems and rants on Instagram and Twitter @ArianaThePoet. \nAlan Pelaez Lopez is an AfroZapotec artist from Oaxaca\, México. They are the author of Intergalactic Travels: poems from a fugitive alien (The Operating System\, 2020) and to love and mourn in the age of displacement (Nomadic Press\, 2020). Much of their writing honors the messiness of grief\, love\, social movements\, and reconciliation. SUMMARY:Lit Fridays with Nona Faustine
DESCRIPTION:Lit Fridays is a literary-focused\, virtual salon presented by The August Wilson African American Cultural Center\, featuring conversations and guest performances on the last Friday of each month. \nNona Faustine is a native New Yorker and award winning photographer. In 2019 she was distinguished with the New York Foundation Arts award in Photography\, BRIC Colene Brown Art Prize\, Anonymous Was A Woman Award\, and was a Finalist in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Outwin Boochever Competition. Her work focuses on history\, identity and representation\, evoking a critical and emotional understanding of the past and proposes a deeper examination of contemporary racial and gender stereotypes. Faustine’s My Country series will be on view from March 5–August 30\, 2021 in The Warhol’s Fantasy America exhibition. Fantasy America invites artists Nona Faustine\, Kambui Olujimi\, Pacifico Silano\, Naama Tsabar\, and Chloe Wise to revisit Andy Warhol’s publication America (1985) and contribute through their own artistic practices. Each of these five artists produces work that offers a complex picture of contemporary American life.
