SUMMARY:Sound Series: Dean & Britta play Galaxie 500\, with special guests\, Meeting of Important People
DESCRIPTION:Presented by The Warhol & The Carnegie Museum of Art \nThe Warhol welcomes back our friends Dean & Britta for the first presentation at the Carnegie Lecture Hall (Oakland)\, through a new collaborative series with the Carnegie Museum of Art. While Dean & Britta have been touring nationally and internationally for the past two years with 13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests (a project commissioned by The Warhol and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust)\, Dean also decided to delve into the back catalog of his seminal first band\, Galaxie 500\, to develop a full set that has been played at just a handful of venues thus far in the U.S. to rave reviews. The dynamic power-pop trio\, Meeting of Important People\, open with an acoustic set of new material. \n“Galaxie 500 became bona fide treasures of indie rock.” – Mojo

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Nellie McKay
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes the inimitable Verve recording artist\, Nellie McKay\, for a unique evening featuring two performances in the intimate Warhol Theater. Beginning at 7:00 with a performance of Doris Day classics on her Normal As Blueberry Pie album\, which is hailed as “among the killer overhauls of American standards”  and one of 2009’s best albums (The New York Times). At 9:00 she will also perform original material from her latest release\, Home Sweet Mobile Home\, which features the playful lyrics and socially conscious point of view that has characterized her music since her breakthrough 2004 debut Get Away From Me. \n“McKay comes on as a Harlem Holly Golightly\, a social activist with a disarming mastery of pop vernacular.” “- Los Angeles Times

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Van Dyke Parks with Clare and the Reasons
DESCRIPTION:Don’t miss this unique and rare opportunity to spend an evening in the intimate Warhol theater with the iconic and incomparable songwriter\, Van Dyke Parks. In a whirlwind music career spanning almost 50 years\, Parks has done everything from being a session player with The Byrds and Judy Collins\, to arranging songs for Tim Buckley\, to working with Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys on the Smile album. His first solo record\, Song Cycle (1968) is a cult classic\, hailed for its eclecticism\, with folk\, classical\, ragtime\, jazz and rock influences. The Brooklyn-based chamber pop band Clare and the Reasons will open the show as well as provide backing for Van Dyke Parks. Their recent release\, Arrow\, included contributions by Van Dyke and Sufjan Stevens. \nThe sheer eclecticism and individualism of his work is remarkable…the product of true inspiration.”—AllMusic.com
