Wide-ranging and immersive\, Warhol gives us the most robust and intricate picture to date of a man and an artist who consistently defied easy categorization and whose life and work continue to profoundly affect our culture and society today. \nGopnik is a regular contributor to The New York Times and has been staff art critic at The Globe and Mail\, The Washington Post\, and Newsweek\, as well as critic-at-large for Artnet News. In 2015 he held a fellowship at the Leon Levy Center for Biography at City University of New York. He has a Ph.D. in art history from Oxford University and worked on Warhol during his Cullman Center Fellowship in 2017-2018. \nFollowing the online presentation\, at 7:45 p.m. EDT this day\, Blake Gopnik will host a Q & A session via Twitter. For those registered\, your current tickets will be honored on the rescheduled date. \nUnderground filmmaker Barbara Rubin’s 1964 art-porn masterpiece Christmas on Earth\, made when she was only 18 years old\, shattered creative and sexist boundaries and shocked NYC’s experimental film scene. Working with Jonas Mekas at the Filmmaker’s Coop\, Rubin was instrumental in creating NYC’s thriving underground film community and a rare female voice in a world of powerful men. A rebellious Zelig of the Sixties\, she introduced Andy Warhol to the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan to the Kabbalah. But beyond shaping the spirit of the Sixties\, Barbara was seeking the deeper meaning of life. After retiring to a farm with Allen Ginsberg\, she shocked everyone by becoming a Hasidic Jew. How and why did one of the 1960’s freest spirits submit to a religious life?  For years\, 94-year-old filmmaker Jonas Mekas has saved all of Barbara’s letters and cherished her memory. Working with Mekas’ footage and rare clips from our archives\, the film takes us inside the world and mind of Barbara Rubin; a woman who truly believed that film could change the world and who then vanished into obscurity. \nPlease note this film contains explicit content and adult subject matter.

The new record marked a reunion with his Modern Lovers bandmate Jerry Harrison\, as producer. Richman has been performing consistently over the last 30 years\, beginning with his pioneering band\, the Modern Lovers\, in the early 1970s. The band’s minimalist approach and forthright songs were influenced by The Velvet Underground and are often referred to as “protopunk” and credited for laying the groundwork for punk and new wave. \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\nPlease note that Jonathan Richman’s performance begins at 8:00 p.m.\n\n

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Beyond Microtonal Music Festival featuring Ray-Kallay Duo and MikroEnsemble
DESCRIPTION:Pianists Vicki Ray and Aron Kallay of the Ray-Kallay Duo have given hundreds of world premieres in Los Angeles and across the country. The Ray-Kallay Duo is dedicated to expanding the sonic possibilities of the multiple keyboard concert\, often using two acoustic grands\, two keyboards or combinations of both. In redefining the 21st century piano duo\, they also frequently include live electronics and alternate tuning systems in their programs. \nMikroEnsemble is a new Finland-based contemporary music group specializing in microtonal music. The core of the ensemble’s instrumentation is formed by new instruments specifically designed for quarter-tone playing. The newest of these instruments is the quarter-tone piano\, built by Otso Haapamäki in 2015. In addition\, MikroEnsemble’s original instrument pallet includes a quarter-tone accordion\, quarter-tone guitar\, quarter-tone flute and quarter-tone clarinet\, along with violin and cello.\n \n\nDoors open at 6:30 p.m.\n\n

DESCRIPTION:We welcome Eko Chamber Collective\, featuring an eclectic roster of Pittsburgh-based musicians including Herman Pearl\, aka Soy Sos\, (electronics)\, Brittany Trotter (flute)\, Anqwenique Kinsel (voice)\, Sadie Powers (bass)\, Paul Thompson (bass)\, and Brian Riordan (live processing). The collective is a live electro-acoustic ensemble that utilizes spatialized performance techniques that cater to reverberant spaces. With the use of a multi-channel sound system\, the group creates an immersive sound environment by collaborating with the acoustics and architecture of spaces rather than working against them\, and this site-specific performance has been developed with our entrance space in mind. Audience members are encouraged to move about the performance space\, as the ensemble’s compositions are created to lend themselves to unique sonic experiences\, which unfold differently depending on one’s vantage point. \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. McCalla was born in New York City to Haitian immigrant parents\, studied cello performance and chamber music at New York University\, then moved to New Orleans where she became captivated by Louisiana Creole music and culture. She joined the Carolina Chocolate Drops string band\, appearing on the group’s Leaving Eden album\, before focusing on a solo career and debut album\, Vari-Colored Songs\, a tribute to Langston Hughes\, in 2013\, which was named album of the year by both the London Times and Songlines magazine. She has collaborated with an impressive and varied roster of artists such as Marc Ribot\, Rhiannon Giddens\, and Louis Michot of the Lost Bayou Ramblers.\n \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.

DESCRIPTION:Over the course of a prominent and prolific career\, Andy Warhol both pictured religious subjects and practiced his religious faith. Yet in 20th century histories of modern American art\, religion is largely excluded. Warhol was perhaps doubly excluded\, as a gay man\, and a believing Christian\, whose identity in the art world and in American society was made complicated by those identities. \nThis conversation between Erika Doss\, professor of American studies at the University of Notre Dame\, and Paula Kane\, professor of religious studies at the University of Pittsburgh\, considers what religion meant to Warhol\, how his religious beliefs shaped and directed his art\, and why religion “matters” in the history of American modernism.  \nRegistration is required. \nDoors open at 6 p.m. \nPresented in conjunction with the exhibition Andy Warhol: Revelation.

DESCRIPTION:For World AIDS Day\, The Warhol and Visual AIDS present a video screening for the thirtieth annual Day With(out) Art. This year’s program\, STILL BEGINNING\, features videos covering broad subject matter from anti-stigma work in New Orleans to public sex culture in Chicago. STILL BEGINNING features new work by Shanti Avirgan\, Nguyen Tan Hoang\, Carl George\, Viva Ruiz\, Iman Shervington\, Jack Waters/Victor F.M. Torres\, and Derrick Woods-Morrow. Visual AIDS is a non-profit that utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue\, supporting HIV+ artists\, and preserving a legacy\, because AIDS is not over. \nResponding to the exhibition Andy Warhol: Revelation\, artist Jordan Eagles will create Illuminations\, a light installation within the museum galleries. Working with blood donated from members of the LGBTQ+ community\, the artist will project images directly onto Andy Warhol’s paintings in order to address the stigma of HIV\, the FDA’s discriminatory ban on blood donation by gay men\, and the value of human life. Eagles is a New York-based artist who has been exploring the aesthetics and ethics of blood as an artistic medium since the late 1990s. \nThe Allies for Health + Wellbeing will be providing information and services for individuals living with\, or at risk of HIV\, viral hepatitis\, and sexually transmitted infections.

DESCRIPTION:Put on your most comfortable party outfit and join us for a sensory-friendly evening of dancing\, socializing\, and artmaking. This event is planned specifically for and with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and those with sensory sensitivities. A live DJ will spin dance classics and take musical requests\, and our adjustable wireless headphones will allow participants to choose their own volume levels or opt out. There will be an enclosed sensory friendly area on the first floor where partygoers can decompress or connect in a calm manner. \nThe Factory underground studio will be open for silkscreen printing and other art projects. Guests can also submit their own designs that will be turned into silkscreens and acetate collages for the event. DESCRIPTION:This event is sold out. Unfortunately\, tickets will not be available at the door.\n\n  \nWe welcome multidisciplinary artist\, Roberto Carlos Lange (aka Helado Negro)\, on a tour supporting his latest album\, This is How You Smile\, on RVNG Intl. A South Florida native\, born to Ecuadorian immigrants and based in Brooklyn\, his upbringing provides essential elements to his songwriting\, including his consistently bilingual lyrics in English and Spanish. Helado Negro\, beyond the persona\, serves as a platform for a nexus of sound\, performance\, and video that create his unique sensibility that blends experimental ambient composition and melodic hooks into a hypnotic avant-pop experience. Lange was also recently awarded a United States Artists Fellow in Music and he’s recipient of a Grants to Artists award in Music from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Brooklyn-based singer and producer\, Zenizen (aka Opal Hoyt)\, opens the show. \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.
