SUMMARY:Sound Series: The Ladybug Transistor with special guests Giant Day
DESCRIPTION:We welcome The Ladybug Transistor for a special appearance featuring members Gary Olson\, Sasha Bell\, Julia Rydholm\, and Pittsburgh siblings\, Jeff and Jennifer Baron. After initially forming in Brooklyn in 1995\, the band released Beverly Atonale (1997)\, followed by their landmark The Albemarle Sound album (1999)\, then followed by Argyle Heir (2001)\, and the self-titled LP The Ladybug Transistor (2003). The albums all share a refined psychedelic-pop approach that often feature distinctive string and brass arrangements. Jeff and Sasha eventually departed from the group to focus on their parallel band The Essex Green. Jennifer formed The Garment District and Olson made his first solo record. San Fadyl\, the original drummer\, passed away in 2007.  \nIn 2019 Gary\, Jeff\, Jennifer\, Sasha\, and Julia reformed for shows in New York City and Norway to celebrate the 20th anniversary deluxe reissue of The Albemarle Sound. 2023 finds them back on the road with a run of shows this summer and fall. The set list will highlight songs from 1999-2003 along with a few other surprises. The minimalist\, electro-pop duo\, Giant Day (Derek Almstead and Emily Growden)\, opens the evening.  \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. Limited seating is available upon advance request. We are committed to offering inclusive\, engaging experiences for people of all abilities. To request accommodations to enhance your visit\, please contact access@warhol.org or call 412.237.8354.\n\n

This performance is an extension of PearlArts’ SYNCHRONIZED: with Soy Sos series. \nPVKVSV (aka Hussein Pwono) is a Congolese-American artist\, beatmaker\, DJ and emerging producer from Pittsburgh\, PA. He expands on jazz and hip hop roots & incorporates electronic elements and samples from music that moves- bossa nova\, flamenco\, and Italian film scores are just a few sources of inspiration\, but influence can be found anywhere\, and the artist leaves no stone unturned. \nHerman Pearl/Soy Sos is a sound designer\, audio engineer\, and producer. He sees sound as an actual physical force\, literally moving the air around and through us. This was impressed upon him in his early encounters with Jamaican sound system\, dub and bass culture in the late 80s. It informs everything he does from the composition\, production\, and mixing of the music to the design and configuration of the playback systems for performances. \n\nDoors open at 7:30 p.m.\nThis performance is primarily standing room only. This performance is an extension of PearlArts’ SYNCHRONIZED: with Soy Sos series. \nGladstone Butler is a New York based artist working with percussion and electronics. His work takes the form of recorded media\, installations and performance. SUMMARY:Sound Series: Soy Sos with Bri Dominque and Ras Maisha: Dub Corridor
DESCRIPTION:Our Sound Series is pleased to partner with PearlArts\, a multidisciplinary arts organization in Pittsburgh (founded by choreographer Staycee Pearl and sound designer/producer Herman Pearl)\, on a monthly summer series focused on the reggae offshoots/evolutions of dub\, roots\, dancehall\, sound system culture and beyond.
