SUMMARY:The Art of Play
DESCRIPTION:The Andy Warhol Museum’s The Art of Play is an exhibition of youth artwork on the importance of play\, sports and physical fitness. Youth explored themes such as sportsmanship\, teamwork\, and the role of the sports celebrity in contemporary culture. The first part of The Art of Play is a juried exhibition of youth digital artwork. Youth from around the region participated. In addition\, local animators\, The Schmutz Company worked with after-school programs to create stop motion animations. The second part of the exhibition is a suite of prints created by students from Pittsburgh’s High School for the Creative and Performing Arts\, which uses Sarah Heinz House athletic teams as their muse. The Warhol’s Eric Shiner\, Milton Fine Curator of Art juried the exhibition. \nThe exhibition\, presented in conjunction with the 2011 NHL Bridgestone Winter Classic and sponsored by the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation\, will be on view at 907 Penn Avenue on December 31\, 2010 as part of First Night activities in Pittsburgh’s cultural district. \nThe Warhol would like to thank the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the Sarah Heinz House. \nView entries from students around the region below! \nSchmutz Brothers Videos\n\n\n\n\n\nBoys and Girls Club\, Days 1-4 Series\n\n“Kiln -n- Time” Series\n\n\n\n\n\nJCC Series\n\n\n\n\nElementary School Entries\n\n\n\n\n\n“Triumph of a Hero”\nby Zack\, Dennis\, Mason\, Briana\,Peyton\, and Burke\nNew Brighton Elementary School\n\n“Sportsmanship is…”\nGroup Project\nACLD Tillotson\n\n\n\n\n\n“Changing the World”\nby Sophia Yacoviello\nRoss Elementary\n\n“Exercise Won’t Hurt”\nby Nadia Huebner\nRoss Elementary\n\n\n\n\n\n“Try Your Best”\nby Cooper Mehall\nRoss Elementary\n\n“What it Means to Have Teamwork”\nby Jesse Crownover\nRoss Elementary\n\n\n\n\n\n“My Pittsburgh Role Models”\nby David Lukac\nRoss Elementary\n\n“Inspiring Workouts”\nby Megan Wurster\nRoss Elementary\n\n\n\n\n\n“Teamwork Counts”\nby Ana Gongloff\nRoss Elementary\n\n\n\n\nMiddle School Entries\n\n\n\n\n\n“Dedication\, Determination and Practice in Art and Athletics”\nby Kathleen Slowik\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n“Skier”\nby Varun Kota\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Snowboarder in Air”\nby Brooke Himmelstein\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n“Ice Skating”\nby Molly Zunski\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Pens vs. Caps”\nby Wyatt Hubler\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n“Splits”\nby Nick Hubal\nNorth Allegheny Middle School\n\n\n\n\nHigh School Entries\n\n\n\n\n\n“Golden Opportunity”\nby Luke Schmidt\nHomer Center High School\n\n“Workers Forgotten”\nby Nick Ursiak\nHomer Center High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“If Andy Warhol Played for the Pens”\nby Destiny Johnson\nHomer Center High School\n\n“Mike Tomlin”\nby Walter Haim\nWest Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Take it Outside”\nby Alex Pearson\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Soccer”\nby Tommy Richten\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Right to Play”\nby Maki Mismas\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Special Olympics”\nby Felicia Fantaske\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Marc-Andre Fleury Tribue”\nby Destiney Weber\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Old Arena and New Arena”\nby Rachel Clark\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Cheerleading is a Sport”\nby Haleigh Mangieri and Kelly Babin\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“NA Football”\nby Anthony Peluso\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Basketball Hands”\nby Michael Janosco\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Couch Potato”\nby Zach Karp\, Jake Lennon and Drew Miller\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Classic Hockey”\nby Brandon Abbott\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Supreme Commissioner”\nby Walter Haim\nWest Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Boxing”\nby Chris Wright\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Teamwork”\nby Rob Hickey\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n\n“Speed it Up!”\nby Hannah Schumacher\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n“Mike Alessi #800”\nby Leanna Noel\nNorth Allegheny High School\n\n\n\n\n
