SUMMARY:Sound Series: Haley Heynderickx & Max García Conover with special guest Kafari
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back Portland-based singer-songwriter Haley Heynderickx\, this time joined by collaborator Max García Conover\, to Carnegie Lecture Hall on a tour supporting their new record\, What Of Our Nature\, on Fat Possum Records. This collaborative record was made in the spirit of Woody Guthrie. From opposite corners of the country\, the two songwriters spent a year sharing songs while reading Woody’s words and biographies\, slowly exploring a patchwork of Americanism to see where their stories fit. García Conover\, half-Puerto Rican\, and Heynderickx\, half-Filipina\, found themselves with this collection of music about the legacy of colonialism\, generational identity\, commercialism and the slippery target of addressing social equity in song. They recorded directly to tape in five days in a barn in Vermont. Pianist and composer\, Kafari\, opens the evening.  \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Patrick Watson with special guest La Force
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Canadian singer-songwriter and composer\, Patrick Watson\, to Carnegie Lecture Hall on a tour supporting his forthcoming album Uh Oh which features a varied\, high-profile roster of collaborators including Charlotte Cardin\, Charlotte Oleena\, Hohnen Ford\, Klô Pelgag\, La Force\, MARO\, Martha Wainwright\, November Ultra\, and Solann. Watson\, a Polaris Music winner in 2006\, has five gold albums in Canada and over the course of his career\, has retained the uncanny ability to coexist in mainstream pop-culture spaces and on the avant-garde fringes. Singer-songwriter\, La Force (aka Ariel Engle)\, opens the evening. \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\n\n \n  \nPatrick Watson composes\, performs\, and records his albums with his long-time bandmate and collaborator and multi-instrumentalists Mishka Stein and Olivier Fairfield. The Canadian artist reached gold and platinum status in over multiple countries (including five certified gold albums in Canada)\, and his shows sell out around the world. Over the course of his career\, Watson has retained the uncanny ability to coexist in mainstream pop-culture spaces and on the avant-garde fringes. His songs have been featured in primetime crowd-pleasers like Grey’s Anatomy and This Is Us\, as well as in multiple arthouse films from Denis Villeneuve (Polytechnique)\, Wim Wenders (Perfect Days) \,and Philippe Falardeau (C’est pas moi\, je le jure!) and more. He’s an artist who’s as comfortable performing impromptu pop-up shows on the train tracks in a Quebec mining town as he is leading the BBC Orchestra at London’s prestigious Barbican. Watson’s an in-demand composer with over 15 film scores under his belt. He was awarded the prestigious inaugural Impact Award at the 2024 Canadian Sync Awards. Watson’s viral single Je te laisserai des mots became the first French song to accumulate one billion streams on Spotify. \nBut whether you discovered Patrick Watson through your local indie record shop\, a movie soundtrack\, a social-media video\, a European music festival\, his hit collaboration with Cinematic Orchestra (2007’s To Build a Home)\, or through his appearance alongside Patti Smith and Michael Stipe at the 2021 Pathway to Paris all-star benefit concert\, his music has a similar effect on all who enter his kaleidoscopic sound-world. The songs of Patrick Watson transform your everyday surroundings into your own imaginary wonderland\, translating stress and sorrow into joy\, and helping you find peace within the chaos of modern life.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: An Evening with Valerie June
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back Valerie June for an intimate solo performance at Carnegie Lecture Hall. This special\, retrospective evening will feature June playing songs across her varied catalogue\, including her most recent and highly praised album\, Owls\, Omens\, And Oracles (2025)\, described as a radical statement to break with the skepticism\, surveillance\, and doom scrolling – let yourself celebrate your aliveness. Deftly blending elements of folk\, soul\, blues\, and Appalachian traditional sensibilities\, The New York Times says June has “built a devoted following by ignoring expectations. She is simultaneously rural and cosmopolitan\, historically minded and contemporary\, idiosyncratic and fashionable\, mystical and down-to-earth.” \n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\nValerie June’s performance begins at 8 p.m.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Cornelius
DESCRIPTION:We welcome Cornelius (aka Japanese multi-instrumentalist Keigo Oyamada) to the Carnegie Lecture Hall. Beginning with his 1997 release Fantasma on Matador Records\, Cornelius (the name is an homage to the Planet of the Apes) gained much critical praise as the “modern day Brian Wilson” for his lush orchestral/pop arrangements and quickly became an in-demand producer working with artists such as Beck\, Bloc Party\, and MGMT. Oyamada’s forays into scoring films include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and the anime mega-film Ghost in the Shell Arise\, as well as being a key performer in Yoko Ono’s reformed Plastic Ono Band.

SUMMARY:A John Waters' Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
DESCRIPTION:We welcome back the legendary writer and director\, John Waters (Pink Flamingos\, Hairspray\, Cry Baby)\, to the Carnegie Lecture Hall with his critically acclaimed one-man show\, A John Waters Christmas. SUMMARY:DarkMatter: #ITGETSBITTER
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol partners with Carnegie Museum of Art and Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for the Arts in Society and School of Art to present DarkMatter\, a trans South Asian performance art duo comprised of Alok Vaid-Menon and Janani Balasubramanian. They refer to their performance #ItGetsBitter as an interruption\, which exists within the boundaries of spoken word\, stand-up comedy\, fashion\, and nursery rhymes. The duo shares stories of navigating the world in all of its ordinariness and peculiarity as trans South Asians\, taking the audience on an emotional roller coaster all of the way from the personal to the political that ultimately strives to imagine new ways of being and resisting together. \nThis performance is co-presented with Carnegie Museum of Art and Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for the Arts in Society and School of Art. \nPlease note\, this performance contains strong language.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: An Evening with Madeleine Peyroux
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes singer/songwriter Madeleine Peyroux to the Carnegie Lecture Hall. Beginning almost 20 years ago with her critically acclaimed debut album Dreamland\, Peyroux’s work continues to exist uniquely and comfortably at the intersection of jazz\, pop\, and blues. Beyond a wealth of original material\, she is also highly praised as an incredibly insightful interpreter of a wide range of material by many classic performers such as Billie Holiday\, Bob Dylan\, Bessie Smith\, and Leonard Cohen. \nThe performance features songs from Peyroux’s recording of Keep Me In Your Heart for A While – The Best of Madeleine Peyroux. The material is presented in an intimate trio configuration of voice\, guitar\, and bass (Madeleine Peyroux\, vocals and guitar; Jon Herington\, guitar; Barak Mori\, bass). The program presents a musical anthology of Peyroux’s nearly 20-year career.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Bonnie "Prince" Billy\, with special guest\, Title TK
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol is thrilled to welcome back the iconic and highly influential songwriter and performer Bonnie “Prince” Billy (a.k.a. Will Oldham)\, through a collaboration with the Carnegie Museum of Art\, in conjunction with the exhibition\, Cory Arcangel: Masters.  Don’t miss this unique evening with the Drag City Records stalwart who\, over the past quarter-century\, has made an idiosyncratic journey through\, and an indelible mark on\, the worlds of indie rock and independent cinema. Oldham will release the special holiday 7” Christmas Eve Can Kill You with Dawn McCarthy and a new full length record is planned for early ’13.  Opening the show is Title TK (artist Cory Arcangel\, musician and writer Alan Licht\, and artist and curator Howie Chen)\, self-described as “a banter-prone band” that has been referred to as “a cross between David Antin and Spinal Tap”.  And Licht also edited the recently published autobiography\, Will Oldham on Bonnie “Prince” Billy. \nDawn McCarthy & Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy “Christmas Eve Can Kill You” from Drag City on Vimeo. \nIn anticipation of their forthcoming holiday single Christmas Eve Can Kill You\, old friends and collaborators Dawn McCarthy and Will Oldham present you with a gift: a video shot by Lara Miranda during the track’s Nashville recording sessions produced by David Ferguson at Butcher Shop Studio\, as well as footage depicting the spirit of the project from McCreary County\, KY. From the Seeger Sisters to Mariah Carey\, Elvis to Sinatra\, from Johnny Cash to Merle Haggard; there is a remarkably strong tradition of fa-la-la-ing in popular music–to say nothing of the rich tradition of the holiday music video. Yet this is definitely not what one expects to see in a holiday music video–there’s no snow\, no presents\, no sacrificial goose or other consumable indulgences; but rather the tenets of what a pre-capitalist Christmas looks like. The elements at the core of why people celebrate holidays to begin with– friendship\, collaboration\, warmth\, rejuvenation\, and joy. \nChristmas Eve Can Kill You also offers a foreshadowing glimpse at Oldham and McCarthy’s forthcoming full-length record of songs they learned from Everly Brothers records; a project inspired by the songstress’ young daughters’ love of the rhythm and blues duo. In true Everly style\, the video showcases harmony as a medium–which is eminently worthy of attention (and even adulation). Given the depth and dynamism of Will and Dawn’s natural harmonic ability\, this video is sure to awaken the inner holiday spirit (and beasts!) like no other one this season. \nChristmas Eve Can Kill You is a collective effort by: Dawn McCarthy\, Bonny Billy\, Emmett Kelly\, Dave Roe\, Kenny Malone\, Billy Contreras\, David Ferguson and Matt Sweeney. Recorded by David Ferguson and Mastered by Paul Oldham. \nDawn McCarthy and Bonnie “Prince” Billy- Christmas Eve Can Kill You b/w Walking the Dog 7” comes out 11/20/12 on Drag City.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Sharon Van Etten\, with special guest\, Flock of Dimes
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter\, Sharon Van Etten\, along with her band\, to the Carnegie Lecture Hall. SUMMARY:Sound Series: An Evening with The Psychedelic Furs
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol is pleased to present An Evening with The Psychedelic Furs at the Carnegie Lecture Hall in Oakland. Led by the smoky vocals and poetic lyrics of songwriter and front man Richard Butler\, The Psychedelic Furs emerged out of the late 70’s UK punk scene and made their debut on the U.S. album charts with 1981’s Talk Talk Talk. One of the singles from that album\, Pretty in Pink\, would become a bona-fide teenage anthem after being re-recorded for the platinum-selling soundtrack of the 1986 John Hughes film of the same name. After seven studio albums with other hits such as Love My Way\, Heaven\, and The Ghost In You\, the band took a hiatus through most of the 90’s and resumed touring in 2000.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Dan Zanes & Friends
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol and Carnegie Museum of Art welcome Dan Zanes & Friends for a not-to-be-missed family concert and dance party at the Carnegie Lecture Hall! Referred to simply by People Magazine as “The crown prince of contemporary kids’ music” and hailed by Time Magazine as one of the leading “Stars of Kindie Rock”\, Zanes and his group bring a genuine\, gracious\, and home-spun yet modern sensibility to a wide array of classic folk tunes. Since his last Pittsburgh appearance in 2006 for the grand re-opening weekend of the New Hazlett Theater (which was co-presented by The Warhol and sold out quickly)\, Zanes won a best children’s album Grammy for “Catch That Train” in 2007 and will release the follow-up album\, “Little Nut Tree” this fall. \n“Dan Zanes has quietly become the best new thing to happen to family music in the nearly four decades since Woody Guthrie’s death.”\n– Houston Chronicle \n“It was one of those rare children’s concerts where the grownups clearly had as much fun as their toddlers.”\n– The Boston Herald \n“His albums are hip enough for Debbie Harry and Lou Reed to make cameos but accessible enough for the under—ten set to sing along…this is good ‘ol fashioned pop music for all ages.”\n– esquire
