SUMMARY:Sound Series: Kid Koala: Nufonia Must Fall
DESCRIPTION:Part film\, part puppetry\, part live music\, and 100% award-winning storytelling\, Nufonia Must Fall is a multidisciplinary performance piece created by internationally renowned Canadian DJ and musician Kid Koala and directed by KK Barrett (Being John Malkovich and Her). Critics have tagged it as “modern primitive multimedia” because it mixes live puppet theater\, video\, a live string quartet\, and a nest of electric instruments to tell the story of a tone-deaf and completely unemployable robot who falls in love with its human creator\, a brilliant but unwitting scientist. Get ready for romancing the Anthropocene. Nufonia Must Fall is fun for the whole family. \nThis performance is co-commissioned by BAM\, Luminato Festival\, Adelaide Festival\, Banff Centre\, Internationales Sommerfestival Hamburg\, Roundhouse UK\, and Noorderzon Performing Arts Festival Groningen.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Yo La Tengo with special guest Lambchop
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes back Yo La Tengo\, one of the most respected and unwavering bands in independent music. For more than 30 years and 14 albums\, the group has charted its own course. As mentioned in a Stereogum review\, “In the best possible sense\, Yo La Tengo can feel less like a band and more like a beloved national trust.” Similar to Television\, which played the Carnegie Music Hall last fall\, Yo La Tengo sits prominently on the trajectory of bands influenced by the Velvet Underground and its impact on rock music in the 60s. \nThis unique evening also features the highly praised Nashville band Lambchop (led by songwriter Kurt Wagner)\, which has deftly subverted and honored traditions of country music\, for almost 20 years. On this rare and special occasion\, both bands pull from their extensive catalogs\, as well as perform new material and collaborate on each other’s songs.

SUMMARY:A John Waters Christmas: Holier & Dirtier
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes back the legendary and incomparable writer and director John Waters to the opulent Carnegie Music Hall\, with his critically acclaimed one-man show A John Waters Christmas. Torn between capitalism and anarchy\, Waters offers his hilariously incisive take on “Christmas crazy\,” spreading his subversive yuletide cheer and lunacy while feeling “needy\, greedy\, and horny for presents and filled with an unnatural desire to please.” The performance is co-presented with Carnegie Museum of Art and in conjunction with the exhibition Warhol By the Book. \nDirectly following his performance\, Waters will hold a book-signing for performance ticket buyers only featuring his recent titles\, such as Carsick\, Role Models\, and Shock Value\, as well as his annual Christmas t-shirt (available exclusively at the tour show dates). All items will be available for purchase on site. \nPlease note this performance contains adult subject matter and strong language.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: TELEVISION
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes Television to the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland for a rare North American performance and much anticipated follow-up to Tom Verlaine’s solo performance at the Hall last October as part of Exposed: Songs for Unseen Warhol Films. The current band\, which features Verlaine and Jimmy Rip on guitar\, Fred Smith on bass\, and Billy Ficca on drums\, has been active again in the past two years\, playing such notable festivals as Big Ears and All Tomorrow’s Parties. \nThe band has had a profound impact on American and British post-punk and indie rock\, and its seminal debut album Marquee Moon (1977) is on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time and is number 3 on Pitchfork Media’s list of the best albums of the 1970s. \nThe event is co-presented with WYEP 91.3FM. \nThe Television performance starts promptly at 8 p.m. There are no support artists. Doors open at 7 p.m.

SUMMARY:Isabella Rossellini in Green Porno
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol and the Carnegie Museums of Art & Natural History welcome the iconic actress\, performer and model\, Isabella Rossellini to the Carnegie Music Hall for a special presentation of her one-woman show\, Green Porno. Adapted from the Sundance Channel series of the same name\, Rossellini has crafted a uniquely thoughtful\, odd and comical performance-lecture with projected illustrations that celebrates biodiversity while focusing on mating rituals and insects and marine life – an imaginative tour de force that sits aptly at the intersection of art and science. \nBefore experiencing this special presentation of Green Porno\, at the Carnegie Music Hall\, enjoy a drink and visit to the Museum of Natural History’s After Dark.

SUMMARY:John Waters: This Filthy World
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes back the incomparable writer and director\, John Waters\, to the opulent Carnegie Music Hall\, with an all-new version of  his solo stand-up performance\, This Filthy World.  As a call to arms to ““filth followers” everywhere\, Waters’ joyously devious monoluge celebrates the film career and obsessional tastes of the man William Burroughs once called “The Pope of Trash” with topics ranging from his early negative artistic influences and his fascination with true crime\, to exploitation films\, fashion lunacy\, and the extremes of the contemporary art world. \nJohn Waters’ performance is presented in connection with The Warhol’s exhibition\, Regarding Warhol\, 60 Artists\, Fifty Years\, for which Waters narrated the audio guide for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Jeff Mangum (Neutral Milk Hotel)\, with special guests\, Tall Firs & Briars of North America
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol is thrilled to welcome Jeff Mangum of Neutral Milk Hotel\, to the opulent Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. As central figure of the highly influential band Neutral Milk Hotel (NMH)\, Mangum has had a profound impact over the past two decades on indie folk/rock music\, largely due to his most recognized NMH record\, In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.  Released in 1998 on Merge Records\, it’s still widely considered a cult classic album and has served to bring further exposure to a group of like-minded musicians\, known as the Elephant 6 collective (also including bands such as Olivia Tremor Control\, Apples In Stereo) in Athens\, GA\, (the college town made famous by R.E.M.).  Just this year\, Mangum has performed at the Coachella Festival and guest curated the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival in Minehead\, UK.  The Warhol is proud to present his first headlining solo show in Pittsburgh.  Tall Firs (Dave Mies and Aaron Mullan) on Thurston Moore’s Ecstatic Peace! Records\, and the experimental folk sounds of Briars of North America\, open the show.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Tony Allen's Afrobeat Orchestra\, featuring Amp Fiddler
DESCRIPTION:Presented by The Warhol & The Carnegie Museum of Art \nFor one-night-only\, don’t miss the legendary drummer\, Tony Allen and his Afrobeat Orchestra\, at the opulent Carnegie Music Hall for his Pittsburgh debut. Simply considered by Brian Eno to be “perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived”\, Allen is most known as the drummer and musical director of Fela Kuti’s band Africa 70 in Nigeria from 1968 to 1979. He and Kuti are attributed with creating Afrobeat; the hard driving\, funk-infused\, and politically engaged style which has seen quite a resurgence in recent years\, culminating in last year’s Broadway hit musical\, Fela! Currently on the World Circuit/Nonesuch record label\, Allen continues to attract a broad fan base due to varied projects including the Good\, the Bad & the Queen collaboration with Damon Albarn (formerly of Blur and currently with Gorillaz). His current touring band features Detroit-based\, soul-funk musician\, Amp Fiddler. \n“…without Tony Allen\, there would be no Afrobeat.” – FELA KUTI \n“perhaps the greatest drummer who has ever lived.”- BRIAN ENO \nArguably the greatest drummer on earth\, TONY ALLEN is quite simply\, the man who put the ‘beat’ into Afrobeat.

SUMMARY:Off the Wall: 2011 - An Evening with Ragnar Kjartansson and Friends
DESCRIPTION:Ragnar Kjartansson is an artist whose work has been shown from Venice to Sundance\, and a founding member of the Icelandic band Trabant (“part political satire\, part space rock and plenty experimental\,” according to PBS). For this special one-night-only affair\, Ragnar invites his friends and family along for an intimate vaudeville-style show at the Carnegie Music Hall. Though this group performs together on Sunday evenings at Ragnar´s mother´s house in Reykjavík\, this unique performance marks the group’s first public appearance. \nÁsdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir is a performance and video artist who has written a melodramatic play to coincide with the evening’s concert.  Davíð Þór Jónsson is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist\, performer and composer who has worked intensively with Ragnar and Ásdís. And Ragnar’s three nieces will take a break from their ongoing Hall of Sculpture performance to join the group in the Music Hall. \nRecent critical essays and articles discussing Kjartansson’s work have appeared in publications including Artforum\, Art In America\, ArtReview\, Frieze\, Modern Painters\, and The New York Times.

SUMMARY:Sound Series: Dean & Britta play Galaxie 500\, with special guests\, Meeting of Important People
DESCRIPTION:Presented by The Warhol & The Carnegie Museum of Art \nThe Warhol welcomes back our friends Dean & Britta for the first presentation at the Carnegie Lecture Hall (Oakland)\, through a new collaborative series with the Carnegie Museum of Art. While Dean & Britta have been touring nationally and internationally for the past two years with 13 Most Beautiful: Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests (a project commissioned by The Warhol and The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust)\, Dean also decided to delve into the back catalog of his seminal first band\, Galaxie 500\, to develop a full set that has been played at just a handful of venues thus far in the U.S. to rave reviews. The dynamic power-pop trio\, Meeting of Important People\, open with an acoustic set of new material. \n“Galaxie 500 became bona fide treasures of indie rock.” – Mojo
