SUMMARY:My Perfect Body: Douglas Crimp and Before Pictures reading
DESCRIPTION:In conjunction with the exhibition Andy Warhol: My Perfect Body\, Douglas Crimp reads from his 2016 memoir Before Pictures\, which tells the story of Crimp’s life as a young gay man and art critic in New York City during the late 1960s through the turbulent 1970s. The details of his professional and personal life are interwoven in this history of New York City at that time\, producing a vivid portrait of both the critic and his adopted city. \nFollowing the reading Jessica Beck\, The Warhol’s associate curator of art\, leads a Q&A focusing on the points of intersection between Crimp’s latest book\, research\, and the themes of the exhibition Andy Warhol: My Perfect Body. \nA book signing in The Warhol Store follows the event. \nDouglas Crimp is Fanny Knapp Allen professor of art history at the University of Rochester and the author of On the Museum’s Ruins\, 1993; Melancholia and Moralism: Essays on AIDS and Queer Politics\, 2002; “Our Kind of Movie”: The Films of Andy Warhol\, 2012; and Before Pictures\, 2016. He was the curator of the Pictures exhibition at Artists Space\, New York\, in 1977 and\, from 1977 to 1990\, an editor of the journal October\, for which he edited the special issue AIDS: Cultural Analysis/Cultural Activism in 1987. With Lynne Cooke\, he organized the exhibition Mixed Use\, Manhattan for the Reina Sofía in Madrid in 2010\, and he was on the curatorial team for the 2015 iteration of MoMA PS1’s quinquennial Greater New York. \nFREE parking in The Warhol lot

SUMMARY:Sound Series: An Evening with Dawn of Midi
DESCRIPTION:The Warhol welcomes Dawn of Midi\, a Brooklyn-based acoustic ensemble made up of Aakaash Israni from India on double bass\, Amino Belyamani from Morocco on piano\, and Qasim Naqvi from Pakistan on drums. The trio met at California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles in 2006 and developed a unique musical aesthetic that can sound deceptively electronic and computer-generated\, involving repetition of phrases and entrancing rhythms. On the trio’s record Dysnomia (released by Erased Tapes)\, they favor composition over improvisation and employ rhythms from North and West African folk traditions. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. \nThis performance is standing room only.

SUMMARY:CANCELED: Sound Series: Bedroom Community Tour featuring Nico Muhly\, Ben Frost\, Sam Amidon\, and Valgeir Sigurðsson
DESCRIPTION:The Bedroom Community Whale Watching 2016 Tour is canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. \nThe adventurous and eclectic Icelandic Bedroom Community record label tour—its first-ever in the U.S.—stops at The Warhol theater. The 2016 Whale Watching tour artists include Nico Muhly\, Ben Frost\, Sam Amidon\, and Valgeir Sigurðsson. Founded in 2006\, a diverse array of like-minded artists from around the globe converged at Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavík\, Iceland\, to record their music. This is the label’s third Whale Watching tour. \n“The Whale Watching Tour is an opportunity to manifest what we\, as a record label and a collective of disparate musical personalities\, do behind the closed doors of the studio. To create something uniquely belonging to the live experience from source material that is very familiar to us. These shows are fueled by joyful energy and appreciation for each other but also tension\, blood and sweat that makes it all the more rewarding at the end of the day.” — Valgeir Sigurðsson \nThe performance is co-presented with the Music on the Edge series of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Music.
