DESCRIPTION:The Sensory Friendly Teen Studio Workshop is a workshop developed specifically so that teens (ages 13–20) with sensory sensitivity needs can experience the museum in a way that works for them. Attendees will explore the galleries as a group\, learn about Warhol’s silkscreen process\, and then move to our underground studio where they will apply those techniques to create their own work.   \nRegistration is capped at 15 attendees. Visitors can explore our seven floors of gallery space\, including the special exhibition\, Paola Pivi: I Want It All. Just around the corner from the museum\, visit our new Print Lounge to get hands on and experiment with silkscreen printing. Teens are welcome to join student-led gallery tours at 11:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. each day and can also learn about Carnegie Museums’ new Teen Membership program. \nSnacks and refreshments available for teens and children. \nInquire onsite for public transportation reimbursement for teens and children. DESCRIPTION:Follow us down the rabbit hole as we present the annual LGBTQ+ Youth Prom: Andy in Wonderland\, the largest affirming prom in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This inclusive celebration ensures that every young person can make their prom night a treasured memory. Don’t be late for this very important date and register for your ticket! Entry to prom includes dinner\, dancing\, silkscreen printing\, and other activities. Prom is open to youth ages 13–20 regardless of how they identify.  \nLearn to drop the beat and get the party started! Presented in partnership with Tech 25\, the Teen DJ Academy is a five-week workshop series taught by professional live and touring DJs. Participants will get hands-on experience with pro gear and perform a set at LGBTQ+ Prom. SUMMARY:Sensory Friendly Morning Workshop for Teens and Young Adults
DESCRIPTION:Our Sensory Friendly Morning Workshops are developed specifically so that teens and young adults (ages 13-24) with sensory sensitivity needs can experience the museum in a way that works for them. These workshops begin before the museum is open to the general public\, and we explore the galleries as a group before applying Warhol’s techniques to our own work in our basement studio. Attendance is limited to 20 people. We provide fidgets\, noise cancelling headphones\, and other accommodations. A visual schedule and other orientation materials will be provided in the weeks before each workshop. DESCRIPTION:For the generation that inspired Warhol\, Pop Generation is a program exclusively for older adults\, age 65 and over\, which takes place multiple times a year and features guided tours of The Warhol’s collection and special exhibitions\, as well as a reception with complimentary refreshments. Join one of our knowledgeable arts educators for an in-depth\, 90-minute tour through the galleries followed by an informal discussion in The Warhol entrance space. This month\, the theme will be Nature and Paola Pivi: learn about our visiting artist Paola Pivi as well as Andy Warhol’s love of animals and his artwork depicting flora and fauna. SUMMARY:Last Look with Lucia Hierro and Jessica Beck: Marisol and Warhol Take New York
DESCRIPTION:To celebrate the closing of the exhibition Marisol and Warhol Take New York\, Jessica Beck\, Milton Fine curator of art\, joins conceptual artist Lucia Hierro for a conversation in the galleries to discuss Marisol’s life\, work\, and legacy. Exploring the exhibition together\, Beck and Hierro bring contemporary perspectives to Marisol’s practice and unpack her influence on the 1960’s New York art world in addition to her continued relevance today. \nLucia Hierro has worked with the Pop aesthetic since her early years at art school and infuses personal narrative and cultural identity into the Pop tradition. Her work is a reminder that Pop is a contemporary genre that continues to engage new artists and address issues of contemporary life.  \nVisitors can convene in The Warhol entrance space at 2 p.m. where they will be ushered to the entrance of the exhibition on the fourth floor.  \nLucia Hierro (b. 1987) is a Dominican American conceptual artist born and raised in New York City\, Washington Heights/Inwood\, and currently based in the South Bronx. Hierro’s practice\, which includes sculpture\, digital media\, and installation\, confronts twenty-first century capitalism through an intersectional lens. She received a BFA from SUNY Purchase (2010) and an MFA from Yale School of Art (2013). Hierro’s work has been exhibited at venues including the Bronx Museum of the Arts\, the Museum of the African Diaspora (MoAD) in San Francisco\, Jeffrey Deitch Gallery (Los Angeles)\, Elizabeth Dee Gallery (New York)\, Latchkey Projects (New York)\, Primary Projects (Miami)\, Sean Horton Presents (Dallas)\, and Casa Quien in the Dominican Republic. Her works reside in the collections of the Pérez Art Museum Miami\, the JP Morgan & Chase Collection\, Progressive Art Collection\, and the Rennie collection in Vancouver\, among others. \nIn the spring of 2021\, Hierro will exhibit in ESTAMOS BIEN: LA TRIENAL 20/21\, El Museo del Barrio’s (NY) first national large-scale survey of Latinx contemporary art featuring more than 40 artists from the US and Puerto Rico. In June of 2021 Hierro will be the subject of a solo exhibition at the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in Ridgefield\, CT titled Marginal Costs\, which will be accompanied by an exhibition catalog featuring an essay by Amy Smith-Stewart\, the exhibition’s curator. \n\nPlease note: For your safety and the safety of those around you\, all those attending this event must wear a face mask that covers both the nose and mouth. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the launch of the Northside Cultural Corridor\, a one-mile North Side cultural district\, with free admission and activities across participating museums and cultural institutions. \nThe Northside Cultural Corridor is a placemaking initiative that focuses on the approximate one-mile passage from the Mattress Factory to The Warhol. Current participating organizations include Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh; Mattress Factory; The Warhol; City of Asylum; the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy; and the National Aviary. The film chronicles a day in the life of a 19 year-old starving artist (Basquiat) who must raise money to reclaim the apartment from which he has been evicted.
