Past Event Sound Series: Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba

CAL_20110816_bassekou_main

The Warhol and Carnegie Museum of Art welcome Malian virtuoso picker and musical visionary, Bassekou Kouyate, to the Carnegie Lecture Hall stage for his Pittsburgh debut. Kouyate leads the group Ngoni Ba, featuring four ngonis (an ancestor of the banjo, also referred to as a “spike lute”) all played by family members. Blurring traditional lines between West African and American blues and roots music, Kouyate has performed with Bonnie Raitt, Bono, Taj Mahal and banjo maverick Bela Fleck. The group’s second CD I Speak Fula is out now on Sub Pop Records affiliate, Next Ambience.

This event is co-presented with Africa Yetu and Carnegie Museum of Art.

Additional Information

Please note: this event is not at The Andy Warhol Museum, but the Carnegie Lecture Hall in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Click the map in the sidebar for directions and more information.
