Led by singer/songwriter M.C. Taylor and multi-instrumentalist, Scott Hirsch, the Durham, North Carolina–based band has drawn comparisons to Bill Callahan and Bonnie Prince Billy, by deftly blending elements of country, folk, and sparse blues. Their songs are underpinned by the earnest lyrics of Taylor, who also lectures on folklore, and authors the blog “The Old Straight Track,” and has contributed to a music education curriculum for Quincy Jones.

Hiss Golden Messenger performs “Biloxi” and “Jenny of the Roses” at The Warhol in a gallery reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory studio.
