Sound Series: Leenalchi

Monday, November 2, 2026, 8 p.m.

A band is posing in a music studio with various instruments, including drums, keyboards, and guitars. The room has textured walls and a blue curtain. Seven band members are standing and seated, with some holding musical instruments.

We welcome Leenalchi, a highly innovative and genre-defying South Korean alternative pop band formed in 2019, renowned for fusing traditional pansori (musical storytelling) with infectious melodies and rhythms. The band is on Luaka Bob, a record label founded by David Byrne, and their distinct sound often draws comparisons to the Talking Heads. Their overall aesthetic has been shaped in part by visionary bassist Young Gyu Jang, who has also created several horror film soundtracks and was a member of the iconic art band SsingSsing, which Tiny Desk’s Bob Boilen described as “one of my most memorable Tiny Desk Concerts of all time.”

“Leenalchi has changed the way I think about music, dancing and Korea. I have never heard anything quite like this.” — Brian Eno
