Sound Series: L’Rain

Tuesday, September 22, 2026, 8 p.m.

A person with long, textured hair, surrounded by artistic white brushstrokes on a gray background.

We welcome L’Rain, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and curator Taja Cheek. Operating at the intersections of art, music, film, fashion and cultural discourse, Cheek’s sensibility, crafted in collaboration with Ben Chapoteau-Katz and Andrew Lappin, transcends disciplines, blurs traditional genre boundaries and deconstructs pop tropes. The 2021 album Fatigue garnered critical acclaim including album of the year from The Wire, and in May 2026, L’Rain recorded a live album and concert film at Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. Cheek was guest curator of the 2024 Whitney Biennial and currently is the artistic director of Performance Space New York.
